The “Rednecks with Paychecks” off-road event in Montague County, Texas, has become a biannual tradition attracting thousands of fans who love mudding, off-roading, and extreme motorsports. Held on a massive 1,200-acre property in Saint Jo, Texas, the event features high-octane activities like monster truck rallies, ATV races, and side-by-side races. Attendees enjoy live music, camping, and various attractions such as the new Mega Truck and Side X Side track.

While the event is a popular draw, it has faced safety concerns, with incidents of injury and property damage in recent years, including a notable 2023 monster truck accident. Despite these challenges, Rednecks with Paychecks continues to be a favorite for off-road enthusiasts, offering thrills, camaraderie, and a break from the everyday grind.

The most recent event ended in chaos and multiple felony charges after a monster truck went on a destructive rampage, crushing people and vehicles.

The incident occurred on September 20 during the “Rednecks with Paychecks” off-road event in Montague County, Texas.

Deputies from the Montague County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a large monster truck striking people and vehicles at the event.

When they arrived, they found Jonathan Earl Reid, a 36-year-old from Crockett, Texas, detained by event security.

Witnesses informed authorities that the chaos began when Reid’s monster truck collided with a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) at the private event.

An argument ensued between Reid and several others over the collision.

According to witnesses, Reid justified his actions by claiming, “If the vehicle doesn’t have an eight-foot flag on it, I can hit it.”

After the argument, Reid allegedly returned to his monster truck and deliberately struck the UTV again, further escalating tensions.

As the situation heated up, onlookers reportedly began throwing objects at Reid’s truck. At this point, video footage of the incident began circulating on social media.

The video shows the monster truck reversing before driving through a crowd of people and over several vehicles, including UTVs, causing widespread panic.

In one particularly shocking moment captured on video, Reid’s truck ran over a Jeep SUV, crushing the vehicle and hitting one of two people who were attempting to flee from the front of it.

Witnesses described Reid continuing to drive erratically, crushing another UTV and injuring additional victims.

According to Montague County Sheriff Marshall Thomas, Reid was intoxicated during the incident, which only worsened the severity of the situation.

Sheriff Thomas confirmed that Reid continued to strike people and property, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

Authorities identified five victims from the rampage. Among them were a 26-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man from Hutchinson, Kansas; a 43-year-old man from Copperas Cove, Texas; and a 67-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man from Hobbs, New Mexico.

Fortunately, only two of the victims suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalization at Muenster Hospital.

Reid now faces five felony charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Despite the severity of the incident, he was released after posting a $200,000 bond.

The video of the event has since gone viral, amassing millions of views on social media.

As the investigation continues, the reckless actions at the off-road event have drawn attention to safety concerns and the dangers of mixing alcohol and extreme vehicles in such environments.
