The Motor City’s reputation as an industrial powerhouse is undercut by a growing international auto theft and smuggling network centered in Detroit; eight men were recently indicted in a scheme that moved high-end stolen vehicles through local lots into shipping containers bound for the Middle East, and authorities say this likely represents only a fragment of a much larger operation.

Detroit was once known as Motor City for good reason, but lately car thefts have become a major problem and many stolen vehicles are ending up on ships headed overseas. Law enforcement sources describe an organized pattern: stolen cars are gathered at commercial lots, packed into containers, and sent to ports where they travel abroad. This shift from local chop shops to international smuggling adds layers of complexity to investigations and recovery efforts.

Federal prosecutors indicted eight men in September, charging them in a 12-count case that alleges a coordinated conspiracy to transport stolen vehicles out of the Detroit area. The indictment describes deliveries at several commercial or industrial lots around the metro area and the shipping of at least two stolen vehicles at a time in containers moved by freight or rail. Those charged face counts that include conspiracy to transport stolen vehicles and multiple counts of transporting stolen vehicles.

Names and ages of the eight suspects were released by prosecutors: Haydar Al Haydari, 41; Karar Alnakash, 43; Abbas Al Othman, 42; Mohammed Al Hilo, 36; Moustapha Al Fetlawi, 46; Terrill Davis, 33; David Roshinsky Williams, 32; and Mohammed Al Abboodi, 35. Authorities have said the cars were sent to destinations including Iraq and Dubai, among other locations. At this stage there is no public information about the immigration status of the accused.

An uptick in international organized crime groups smuggling stolen vehicles from the Motor City to countries in the Middle East is alarming law enforcement officials looking to crack down on the thefts, as experts say criminals are leveraging juveniles to do their dirty work.

In September, eight men were indicted in federal court for allegedly operating a car theft and international smuggling operation in Detroit, Michigan, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan said in a news release.

According to the 12-count indictment, the eight suspects conspired among themselves and others to coordinate the deliveries of stolen vehicles at one of four commercial or industrial lots throughout the Detroit metropolitan area. Once the vehicles were delivered, prosecutors said the men would pack at least two of the stolen vehicles into shipping containers and send them to nearby port cities by freight or rail.

Reports indicate juveniles may have been used to carry out thefts, a tactic that complicates both enforcement and prosecution because younger offenders can face different penalties. Whether juveniles were used for legal reasons, lower pay, or coercion is unclear, but their involvement highlights how criminal networks exploit vulnerabilities during recruitment. That exploitation extends beyond local teens; investigators suspect an international chain of buyers and intermediaries is waiting at the other end of the containers.

“A lot of the cars were shipped to the Middle East,” Dearborn Police Cpl. Daniel Bartok told FOX 2, including locations like Iraq and Dubai.

The suspects have been identified as Haydar Al Haydari, 41, of Garden City; Karar Alnakash, 43, of Detroit; Abbas Al Othman, 42; of Dearborn Heights; Mohammed Al Hilo, 36, of Detroit; Moustapha Al Fetlawi, 46, of Dearborn Heights; Terrill Davis, 33, of Detroit; David Roshinsky Williams, 32, of Harper Woods; and Mohammed Al Abboodi, 35, of Detroit, according to federal prosecutors.

All eight men are charged with one count of conspiracy to transport stolen vehicles and one or more counts of transportation of a stolen vehicle, prosecutors said.

So far, authorities have recovered approximately 350 vehicles tied to related probes, a number that reflects both the scale of the thefts and the difficulty of cataloging losses scattered across jurisdictions. Recovery is only one part of the equation; tracing the money trail and seizing profits could be the lever that chills this trade. Prosecutors say financial tracking may reveal the international links that enable local crews to keep operating.

As authorities race to track down stolen vehicles before they are loaded onto shipping containers, while also investigating how criminal groups on American soil are working with international crime organizations, McPhee insisted there is one key component in what is driving the uptick in vehicle thefts throughout Michigan.

“The one key connection is somebody’s getting paid,” McPhee told Fox News Digital. “There’s money to be made. So if you have a local organized gang, they can be connected internationally to another group very easily. We have the internet, it’s not hard.”

Investigators compare the work to a game of Whack-a-Mole: disrupt one cell and others spring up to replace it, especially when overseas demand keeps paying handsomely for stolen inventory. The most effective pressure points are often the financial networks and the shipping channels that allow stolen cars to cross borders. Without coordinated international cooperation, the buyers at the far end of the pipeline remain difficult to reach and prosecute.

Law enforcement continues to pursue leads, recover vehicles, and follow financial trails, but the picture painted by these indictments is of a sophisticated, adaptable criminal enterprise. Until the cross-border buyers and the money flows are interrupted, local enforcement actions will likely stem losses but not end the market.

  • Didn’t even have to read about this; I said immediately, see what those criminal Fake religion Political Ideology Muslims are doing in the Motor City of Detroit, which is the MO of that Islamist CULT of Satan!

    >Pay attention and learn of your blaspheming error! You have a huge inaccuracy that needs to be corrected! Saying that Jesus is another prophet like Muhammad is blasphemous. First Jesus was not a mere prophet but was God Himself and therefore the Redeemer and Savior of Mankind as he said. Muhammad was only a supposed prophet and there is irrefutable evidence in the historical text of the time he lived that points to his being an outright liar and heretic as well as a criminal and child molester along with his being a polygamist! The following statements are highly accurate and actually proven.
“In 632, only months before he died, Muhammad apparently met for the first time with a Christian community as such. An official delegation of Christians, probably led by a bishop, came to Mecca from Najran in Yemen. After engaging the Christians in discussion, the Prophet is said to have realized that Christian teachings are indeed incompatible with Islam, after which the revelation followed that only Islam is acceptable to God as a religion. The Quran also says very specifically that those who refer to Jesus as God are blasphemers, and that Christians saying that Christ is the son of God is an imitation of Jews, who earlier had said that Ezra is the son of God. According to the Quran Jesus was only a servant; Jesus the son of Mary was no more than an apostle of God. Quranic verses dealing with Jesus’ death have been interpreted differently by commentators, but generally they have been taken to mean that Jesus did not die by crucifixion. For Christians the Quran has thus served as a denial of Jesus’ incarnation and death on the cross and of the reality of the Trinity.” (Oxford University Press)
These two points alone put Islam and the Muslims completely at odds with Jesus Christ and all Christians and are the enemies of such! Muhammad himself began this conflict and was the spoiler and Heretic directly attacking God’s plan as foretold by all the previous prophets going all the way back to Abraham. Things have been in conflict because of Muhammad ever since and are getting worse, this will not resolve until Islam is Chastised or obliterated as a fake religion started by a false prophet and therefore heretic! In Summary Muslims are in complete denial of what Jesus Christ said and who He was which makes them Anti-Christ and supportive of the Devil and all that is unholy. Basically Muhammad started this Blasphemy back in 632 AD and outright declared War on Christendom!<
