On Tuesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio warned that he would issue a subpoena to New York Attorney General Letitia James for not cooperating in providing information requested by his committee about the lead prosecutor in former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan criminal case.

Earlier, on May 15, Jordan had sent a letter to James requesting correspondence and other details related to Matthew Colangelo, a former employee of her office.

“Mr. Colangelo’s recent employment history demonstrates his obsession with investigating a person rather than prosecuting a crime,” Jordan recounted. He has sent letters to all his recent employers, according to The Hill.

During the later part of the Trump administration, Colangelo was employed by James and took part in her office’s investigation into the Trump Organization.

This investigation formed the basis of a civil fraud case brought against the former president by the attorney general.

In February, a Manhattan judge ruled in favor of the state of New York, ordering Trump to pay over $450 million. The case is currently being appealed.

After leaving James’ office, Colangelo joined the Biden Department of Justice and rose to become its third highest ranking official over two years.

In December 2022, he departed from the DOJ to become the lead prosecutor in Bragg’s “hush money” case against Trump, a case that had been previously declined by several agencies.

Recently, a New York jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records related to payments made to individuals such as Stormy Daniels before the 2016 general election. Trump intends to appeal this verdict.

In a letter dated May 15, Jordan expressed concerns about Colangelo’s targeting of “President Biden’s chief political rival,” implying that it suggests politicization and weaponization within the Biden Justice Department.

As a result, Jordan requested documents and communications between Colangelo and various offices referencing Trump and the Trump Organization, as well as all personnel files related to Colangelo’s employment at the New York Attorney General’s Office.

Upon not receiving a response from James by May 29th, Jordan sent a follow-up letter on Tuesday.

In it Jordan wrote, “Congress has a specific and manifestly important interest in preventing politically motivated prosecutions of current and former Presidents by elected state and local prosecutors, particularly in jurisdictions — like New York County — where the prosecutor is popularly elected and trial-level judges lack life tenure.”

“Among other things, if state or local prosecutors are able to engage in politically motivated prosecutions of Presidents of the United States (current or former) for personal acts, this could have a profound impact on how Presidents choose to exercise their powers while in office,” he added.

Jordan set a new deadline of July 2 for James and threatened to issue a subpoena if she does not comply.

He closed, “The Committee is prepared to resort to compulsory process to obtain compliance with our requests.”

According to The Hill, Bragg and Colangelo are set to appear before the Judiciary Committee on July 12, following Trump’s sentencing hearing.

  • I hope Jim Jordan nails those two corrupt, compromised, Anti-Constitution, Anti-American, Communist Democrats to the wall.
Jordan is a great man, and so is John Kennedy millions like them both.
But, the question is will anything really happen such as the prosecution of President Trump be dropped.?

    • One hope is the Supreme Court takes the case and squashes the travesty. The other is the election this fall, which restores the rightful President to his office. Republican House and Senate majorities will help, too. Prayer never hurts.

  • Why are you pussyfooting around with James and wasting more time get a warrant and raid her house with armed officers at 2am and raid her office at the same time. Just indicate her on all the crimes she inflicted on a American President. She needs to be stripped of her law license. Trump should be able to sue her and all these bogus prosecutors going after Trump. These judges need to be investigated and impeached for criminal corruption fraud charges and sent to prison for election interference. Trump should sue all of them. If Biden or his administration are involved in these bogus charges he should be removed from office and charged with Treason. FJB

    • It’s been the same since as far back as I can remember two tier justice and nothing ever happens.

  • I would rather see him start pushing for LEGISLATION THAT CRIMINALIZES ELECTION AND VOTER FRAUD!!!

MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCES OF 5 YEARS PER VIOLATION and put the DEATH PENALTY ON THE TABLE with a low threshold for applying it and limited to ONE APPEAL WITH MERIT!!
