Abdi was booked into Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge, according to law enforcement records. Officers subsequently tracked him to an address on Marquette Avenue and arrested him without incident.
In response to our questions about what took place at the apartment, MPD confirmed another man, who is not the Congresswoman’s son, was arrested earlier in the day.

Public records show Abdi has a record of convictions and traffic-related offenses, including a 2024 felony speeding conviction for driving 108 miles per hour in St. Paul. That case described him operating a Jeep Grand Cherokee and speeding alongside another vehicle, which culminated in a felony charge. He has multiple other convictions, many tied to vehicle offenses, and he once pleaded guilty to fleeing a police officer. Those facts raise real questions about why someone with that background was living with a congresswoman’s son.
Earlier that day (Tuesday), the city’s police department said in a statement to the Daily Mail that they conducted a traffic stop and cited Abdi for no proof of insurance and no license.
The department said that Abdi was released at the scene and the vehicle was in the process of being impounded when a firearm was found inside.
Officers later tracked Abdi to an address on Marquette Ave where they said they arrested him ‘without incident.’

Rosen also relays that ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons described her accusations as a “ridiculous effort to unfairly demonize our law enforcement officers.”
At the heart of this is a simple question: how do public officials manage private risk when their families live under a spotlight? Voters have a right to expect prudent choices from those who craft and defend our laws, especially on crime and public safety. Living arrangements that bring known offenders into close proximity with a lawmaker’s family undercut credibility when those lawmakers preach tough-on-crime positions.

Law enforcement acted on a warrant and removed firearms from the premises, and that action will play out through the courts and county booking records.
