Ines Gomez Mont, the former Mexican television host once known for proposing to Tom Brady in a wedding dress during Super Bowl XLII Media Day in 2008, is being held at the Broward Transitional Center in Florida after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested her in Miami last month on an immigration violation.

The arrest ends years of her evading a separate $160 million fraud and money laundering case in Mexico. Mexican prosecutors obtained arrest warrants for Gomez Mont and her husband, attorney Victor Manuel Alvarez Puga, in 2021, alleging the pair operated a network of shell companies tied to roughly $160 million in government contracts, including funds connected to the prison system. The allegations against them include organized crime, money laundering and tax fraud.

After the warrants were issued, the couple left Mexico. Gomez Mont posted on social media maintaining her innocence before authorities eventually located the two in South Florida.

Mexican officials say they requested her provisional detention for extradition in late 2025 and prepared a formal extradition request to the U.S. Department of Justice. Alvarez Puga was previously detained by ICE on immigration violations before posting bail; his current whereabouts have not been disclosed.

Gomez Mont’s legal team has filed a sealed habeas petition challenging her detention. A federal judge recently denied her emergency request to block a transfer out of South Florida, but ordered the government to explain why the habeas petition should not be granted. She now faces two parallel legal proceedings: her immigration detention in the United States and Mexico’s extradition request.

The case has drawn attention in part because of Gomez Mont’s prior brush with American pop culture. In 2008, she appeared at Super Bowl Media Day in a wedding dress and veil and proposed to Brady on live television. Brady declined, noting he was already with Gisele Bündchen at the time.
