Newly released 911 audio from the October 15, 2026 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, captures a dispatcher telling a father not to “do anything” as he raced toward his daughters’ school armed with a concealed handgun to confront a 16-year-old gunman.
Kaylub Giamanco, 36, has at least one daughter enrolled at the school in Deschutes County. According to the call obtained and published by Oregon Public Broadcasting, Giamanco told the dispatcher he had spotted the attacker entering the building with a gun.
“Oh my God, someone’s at my daughters’ school with a gun. I have a gun, and I will shoot them right now if I have to,” Giamanco told the dispatcher.
When the dispatcher asked for the phone number he was calling from, Giamanco responded with urgency: “This is my daughter’s school! I’m about to go kill this kid. He’s in the school!”
“Entering the building. Right now! God damn it, they’re [expletive] shooting people! Come on!”
That was Giamanco’s reply when the dispatcher pressed him for the attacker’s location inside the school. The dispatcher continued asking for details as the call went on.
Giamanco ultimately entered the building and shot the attacker dead, ending the incident, according to Breitbart News’ earlier reporting on the shooting.
After the confrontation, Giamanco called his mother to tell her what had happened. “A man went into my daughters’ school and shot kids and I looked at him point-blank, and I shot and killed him, Mom,” he told her.
The release of the 911 audio has drawn renewed attention to the response time and guidance given by dispatchers during active shooter situations, as well as to the role armed bystanders play when law enforcement has not yet arrived on scene.
