The U.S. military has been testing a new electronic warfare tool called “Hammer of the Gods” that scrambles enemy navigation and protects friendly communications, and recent experiments suggest it could shift the balance in modern fights by degrading precision-guided threats while keeping our forces connected.

US Military Successfully Tests Awesomely Named ‘Hammer of the Gods’ Space-Age Technology

Military leaders describe Hammer of the Gods as a portable emitter that offers expanded command-and-control and electronic warfare functions in a low-electromagnetic-signature package. The system is meant to operate at the forward edge of operations, creating effects across land, sea, air, and space without exposing friendly forces to wide-spectrum interference.

During recent joint experiments on the U.S. West Coast, Army, Navy, and Space Force elements worked together to evaluate the capability as part of the Project Convergence exercises. The experiments focused on how the emitter can be deployed rapidly and integrated into existing operational networks to support maneuver and strike operations.

Fort Irwin, Calif. – A key highlight of Joint experimentation during Project Convergence Capstone 6 is the Army, Navy and Space Force coming together on the west coast to experiment with the effects of a technology called Hammer of the Gods.

Although Hammer of the Gods is a relatively new technological capability, it has already begun to play an important role in military experimentation. Hammer of the Gods is an emitter that provides an expanded suite of command-and-control (C2) and operational capabilities in a highly deployable, low-electromagnetic-signature, electronic warfare platform, delivering multi-domain effects at the forward edge of operations.

Put simply, the system jams positioning, navigation, and timing signals that precision munitions rely on to hit targets accurately. By disrupting GPS and related signals, long-range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise missiles can lose the precise guidance that makes them so lethal.

The portable signal disruptor can reportedly blind enemy to several precision-guided weapons such as long-range artillery, guided missiles and cruise missiles.

The radio signals specifically jam positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) signals, including GPS data, that precision weapons rely on to navigate accurately.

Without reliable PNT data, weapon accuracy drops sharply, increasing the likelihood of delayed missions and missed targets.

The system also creates a resilient communications network that allows friendly forces to stay connected despite heavy electronic jamming.

Beyond negating incoming guided threats, Hammer of the Gods is designed to build a resilient communications mesh so commanders can direct forces even when adversaries try to blind or confuse troops electronically. That mix of denial to the enemy and protection for friendly forces is exactly the kind of asymmetric advantage commanders want on the battlefield.

Senior officers and space-force representatives stress that Positioning, Navigation and Timing is foundational to modern operations and that counter-PNT tools enhance lethality by affecting an adversary’s targeting backbone. The military is testing how units can operate through PNT disruption without losing the ability to shoot, move, and communicate effectively.

“Positioning, Navigation and Timing is the foundation of modern military operations. Understanding how to protect and operate through PNT disruption ensures our forces can continue to shoot, move and communicate effectively,” [ Lt. Col. Darrin] Hall [Chief, Modeling, Simulation and Integration, U.S. Space Forces Pacific] said. “Counter-PNT effects enhances lethality by impacting the backbone for pinpoint targeting via long range artillery, guided missiles, and cruise munitions. Without PNT data, modern weapon precision drops sharply, resulting in delayed missions, missed objectives, or severe collateral damage.”

From a Republican perspective, investment in technologies like this matches a clear strategy: deter aggression by maintaining superior capabilities and make it costly for rivals to threaten American forces or allies. Strength through advanced, fieldable systems is a straightforward way to preserve deterrence and ensure battlefield advantage.

Tests to date indicate the concept works and that continued refinement and integration will be necessary to turn an experiment into a robust fielded capability. As adversaries expand their own electronic and space-enabled tools, staying ahead with pragmatic, deployable systems is crucial to keeping the strategic edge in high-end conflict.
