Madison Sheahan, former Deputy Director of ICE under the Trump administration, has resigned to run for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, challenging a long-time incumbent and pitching herself as a law-and-order, pro-Trump candidate focused on jobs, border security, and conservative values.

Madison Sheahan resigned from her post at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to launch a campaign for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, signaling a high-profile Republican challenge to an entrenched Democrat. Her move comes after significant expansions at ICE during her tenure and positions her as a candidate tied closely to the Trump agenda.

Ohio’s 9th District has been represented by the same Democrat since 1983, making any Republican bid an uphill fight, but recent election margins show the seat is not untouchable. In 2024 the incumbent narrowly won re-election by a slim margin, indicating the district’s voters are shifting in ways Republicans believe they can capitalize on.

Sheahan’s campaign message is direct and unapologetic, focused on protecting American jobs, boosting paychecks, and defending traditional values in northwest Ohio. She emphasizes backing President Trump’s policies and promises to make the district safer and more prosperous while arguing that career politicians have lost touch with their constituents.

“No Excuses. Let’s Get It Done,” read a message on Sheahan’s campaign website. “Former ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan is fighting to protect American jobs, American paychecks, and American values in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.”

“For too long, Northwest Ohio has been represented by a career politician who has grown comfortable with the swamp and disconnected from the people back home,” Sheahan said in a statement. “I am running because President Trump deserves a Congress that stands firmly behind his agenda, and Ohio deserves an elected Representative that will make America safer, more affordable, and more prosperous.”

Her record at ICE will be central to the campaign narrative, and Republicans will highlight operational growth under her watch as proof she delivers results. During her tenure, ICE reportedly grew its workforce significantly, which supporters point to as evidence of organizational strengthening and better enforcement.

Sheahan has played a key role in ICE operations since her appointment. During her tenure, ICE grew from 20,000 to 30,000 agents and employees. Before coming to ICE, Sheahan worked as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Sheahan is originally from Curtice, Ohio, and attended the Genoa Area High School there before attending the Ohio State University, from which she earned a Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, public management, leadership, policy, and agri-business.

Sheahan’s Ohio roots are part of her appeal: she grew up in Curtice and studied at Ohio State University, which gives her local credibility even as she leans on federal enforcement experience. Her background in state-level administration and federal immigration enforcement provides a resume tailored to both local and national concerns.

Republican strategists will argue that the district’s narrow 2024 results and shifting voter attitudes create an opening for a candidate who can tie local economic concerns to national policy achievements. Sheahan’s pitch that a Congress aligned with President Trump can deliver safety and affordability aims to convert voters who backed the president but stuck with an incumbent Representative.

The campaign will likely focus heavily on border security and immigration enforcement, topics where Sheahan has clear credentials and where conservative voters remain energized. Messaging that links stronger enforcement with protected American jobs and reduced pressure on communities must resonate in parts of northern Ohio where manufacturing and working-class families are watching for economic relief.

Her announcement has stirred both optimism and skepticism within party ranks, as Republicans weigh the potential to flip a longtime Democratic seat against the realities of building a winning investment in a district with deep incumbent loyalty. Still, the combination of a tight recent margin and a candidate with national agency experience makes this contest one to watch for GOP operatives.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.

The campaign is just beginning, and voters in Ohio’s 9th will soon decide whether they want to replace a decades-long incumbent with a candidate whose credentials are rooted in enforcement and loyalty to the Trump agenda. That decision will test whether conservative arguments about jobs, security, and restoring accountability can outweigh incumbency and local loyalties.
