The Department of Homeland Security publicly slammed Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger after Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed Marcelo Vasquez-Reyna, a Mexican national convicted of sexually abusing his teenage daughter, and DHS blasted the governor’s sanctuary policies as contributing to a permissive environment for criminal aliens.
Local Albemarle records show Vasquez-Reyna pleaded guilty in March to charges involving sexual abuse of a child between the ages of 15 and 17 and faced additional accusations of rape and abduction. He reportedly groped his daughter multiple times and attempted forced sexual violence, leaving her living in fear of further attacks.
He received a sentence of five-and-a-half years with five years suspended, a punishment that ICE officials deemed insufficient given the nature of the offenses, so agents took him into custody immediately after his conviction.
ICE deported a Mexican national who sexually abused his own teenage daughter in Virginia — and DHS isn’t mincing words, calling him a “depraved freak” who has “NO sanctuary in our nation.”

Marcelo Vasquez Reyna pleaded guilty in March to violating his daughter, who was between 15 and 17 at the time of the abuse. He was also charged with rape and abduction. According to the Daily Progress, he repeatedly groped the girl and attempted to rape her using force, causing her to live in fear of new attacks.
The case lands as Democratic Gov. Abigail Spanberger faces mounting criticism over illegal immigrant crime in Virginia. On her first day in office, Spanberger rescinded her Republican predecessor’s order directing state law enforcement to assist federal immigration authorities — and terminated all 287(g) agreements with ICE.
DHS used the deportation to criticize policies that reduce local cooperation with federal immigration authorities, saying such choices create havens for criminal aliens. Officials highlighted that Spanberger ended agreements allowing state and local officers to assist ICE, a change DHS argues makes communities less safe.
The agency did not hold back in public messaging, characterizing Vasquez-Reyna with blunt language and directly tying the incident to the broader policy choices in Richmond. That commentary aimed to make the political case that sanctuary-style policies invite more crime by limiting the ability of federal agents to identify and remove dangerous noncitizens.
Virginia’s leadership pushed back against the framing, arguing local priorities and community trust with law enforcement influence policy decisions. Supporters of sanctuary approaches say trust between immigrant communities and police helps policing, while critics say it protects those who should be deported after criminal convictions.
Outside the policy fight, law enforcement personnel described the removal of Vasquez-Reyna as a necessary public safety action to protect vulnerable residents and prevent further harm. ICE officers emphasized their mission to arrest and remove individuals who pose a threat, regardless of local divisions over immigration enforcement.
NO SANCTUARY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.
This depraved freak who sexually abused his OWN DAUGHTER is yet another illegal alien who flocked to Sanctuary Spanberger’s Commonwealth of Criminals.
Virginia continues to be a HAVEN for criminals like this who know that @GovernorVA and Virginia sanctuary politicians will try to shield them from justice.
The heroic men and women of ICE will continue to hunt down, arrest, and REMOVE illegal aliens like this monster from Virginia communities.
The political fallout centered on how much state officials should coordinate with ICE, and whether rescinding 287(g) agreements exposes communities to avoidable dangers. Proponents of tougher cooperation point to cases like this as proof that federal removal authority is a critical tool for public safety.
Spanberger and other Democrats argue that ending those agreements protects civil liberties and prevents racial profiling while preserving local control of prosecutions and policing priorities. The debate remains sharply divided, framed by competing views of where responsibility for public safety should sit.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
