Barry Morphew faces a first-degree murder charge for the tragic death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew. Although Suzanne went missing in May 2020, her remains weren’t discovered until September 2023 in Colorado. This indictment comes after previous charges against Barry were dismissed in 2022 due to allegations of prosecutorial misconduct.

On May 6, 2020, Suzanne sent Barry a text indicating her dissatisfaction with their relationship. “I’m done. I could care less what you’re up to and have been for years. We just need to figure this out civilly,” she wrote. This message set the tone for the events that would unfold.

Suzanne Morphew was last seen on May 10, 2020. Barry claims he departed their home at 5 a.m. for a landscaping job in Denver, Colorado. Later that day, Suzanne’s neighbor reported her missing after she failed to return from a bike ride on Mother’s Day.

When law enforcement found Suzanne’s blue mountain bike, they noted there was no blood around it. An officer speculated that the bike appeared to have been intentionally placed at that location. A large search operation commenced, involving local and federal agencies.

On May 13, 2020, Suzanne’s bicycle helmet was discovered about 0.84 miles from where her bike had been located. This added to the mystery surrounding her disappearance. Despite these discoveries, Suzanne remained missing.

In a video posted to Facebook on May 14, 2020, Barry pleaded for Suzanne’s safe return. “Oh Suzanne, if anyone is out there that can hear this, that has you, please we’ll do whatever it takes to bring you back,” he said. His emotional appeal was viewed by many.

On May 5, 2021, Barry was arrested for murder after deliberation, along with charges of attempting to influence a public servant and tampering with evidence. He maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty. The case took a dramatic turn when it was dismissed in April 2022 due to misconduct.

Barry and his daughters appeared on Good Morning America on May 6, 2022. During the interview, Barry expressed his enduring love for his family. “I just love my girls. And I love my wife. And I just want her to be found,” he said.

In a May 15, 2023 interview, Barry denied any involvement in Suzanne’s disappearance. “Absolutely not,” he stated when questioned about his role. He criticized law enforcement, saying, “They’ve got tunnel vision and they looked at one person and they’ve got too much pride to say they’re wrong.”

Despite allegations about marital issues, Barry portrayed a positive image of their relationship. “We had a wonderful life, a wonderful marriage,” he said. His daughter Macy voiced her unwavering belief in his innocence.

The remains of Suzanne Morphew were discovered in Moffat, Colorado on September 22, 2023. This finding by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation brought a crucial piece of the puzzle to light. The community was shocked by the revelation.

An autopsy conducted on April 29, 2024 determined Suzanne’s death was a homicide. Toxic substances like butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine were found in her body. These substances raised questions about the circumstances of her death.

Barry Morphew was indicted by a grand jury on June 20, 2025, charged with first-degree murder. He was apprehended in Phoenix, Arizona. The case against him has been bolstered by new evidence.

Prosecutors revealed that Barry used the chemicals found in Suzanne’s body as tranquilizers on his deer farm. He was the only person in the area who had acquired a BAM prescription from 2017 to 2020. This detail added weight to the case against him.

Barry’s attorney, David Beller, stands firm in his client’s innocence. “Yet again, the government allows their predetermined conclusion to lead their search for evidence,” Beller stated. He expressed confidence that the outcome would not change.

As the case unfolds, Barry Morphew continues to assert his innocence. He remains steadfast despite the serious charges he faces. The legal battle is expected to be lengthy and complex.

The Morphew case has captivated public attention, highlighting issues within the justice system. Allegations of misconduct and new evidence have complicated the proceedings. The quest for truth continues as the case progresses.

With emotions running high and the stakes significant, all eyes remain on the courtroom. The outcome will have lasting implications for all involved. The journey to justice is ongoing.
