Family members of former MLB pitcher Tyler Walker are still unaccounted for after catastrophic flooding in central Texas claimed over 100 lives. Mark Walker, 51, his wife Sara, 50, and their son Johnny, 14, went missing while vacationing at a river house in Hunt, Texas, near the Guadalupe River. This area was severely affected by the Kerr County flood last Friday, according to reports from the San Francisco Chronicle and family sources.
Mark Walker is the elder brother of Tyler Walker, who once played for the San Francisco Giants. Kathy Walker, the mother of both Mark and Tyler, expressed her anguish, saying, “I’m sick to my stomach. It’s a terrible feeling, because you’re helpless here.” Kathy last spoke to Mark on Thursday before the disaster struck, sharing her deep concern and hope for their safety.
Ellie, the couple’s 16-year-old daughter, was away at Camp Waldemar and has been located safe and sound. Tyler and his wife traveled to Texas to support their niece during this trying time. Tyler Walker, who pitched in the major leagues for eight seasons, mostly with the Giants, is known for his 23-18 record and 243 strikeouts.
Officials in Texas confirmed on Monday that the death toll from the flooding reached 109, with fatalities reported in six counties, including Kerr, Burnet, and Travis. The floods have brought devastation across a wide swath of Texas, prompting a significant rescue and recovery effort. A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper and a Kerr County Sheriff’s deputy were seen assisting a rescue diver from the water during the ongoing search efforts along the Guadalupe River.
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha provided an update on Tuesday, stating, “As of 8 a.m. central time, 87 deceased have been recovered in Kerr County, including 56 adults and 30 children.” The identification process for 19 adults and seven children is still underway, adding to the emotional toll of the disaster.
The Walker family, along with many others, continues to be in the thoughts and prayers of those following the tragic events. The community remains hopeful for a positive outcome as search and rescue teams persist in their efforts. This devastating flood serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable power of nature and the impact it can have on families and communities.
