During the third day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, a speaker at the Black Caucus event made an attention-grabbing statement that has drawn significant interest from political observers.

Rev. Mark Thompson, who hosted the Black Caucus panel, encouraged attendees to remain composed leading up to the upcoming election, prompting debate and backlash, notably from the Trump campaign.

Rev. Thompson, known for his role as the host of the “Make it Plain” podcast, addressed the audience with a directive to stay composed in the weeks leading up to the election. “We got 70 days to act right, y’all. Now, after 70 days, we can go back to acting crazy, right?” Thompson remarked during the event.

His remarks seemed to imply that supporters should refrain from taking any actions that could potentially damage the Democratic Party’s chances until after the election.

When someone off-camera referenced the DNC chant “We’re not going back,” Thompson humorously responded, “I hope not, but for those who got to, just wait 70 days to go back, please. Be good.”

The Trump campaign was quick to highlight Thompson’s statement as a clear indication of Democrats exposing their true intentions, ensuring that it did not go unnoticed.

Critics have utilized the phrase “saying the quiet part out loud” to characterize instances in which political figures unintentionally reveal their underlying strategies or beliefs.

Thompson, who has been linked with the controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, has previously come under scrutiny for his connections to Farrakhan, who is recognized for making disparaging remarks about Jewish people and Israel.

Nevertheless, Thompson remains actively involved in political activism, especially within the African American community.

At the Black Caucus event, he highlighted the significance of Black men staying alert and knowledgeable in light of what he characterized as deliberate disinformation and attempts to sow discord within the community.

“We know we are the most targeted on social media for disinformation and misinformation. A lot of confusion, and there’s a thing going on deliberately to pit Black men against Black women and vice versa,” Thompson stated. He then posed a question to the panel, asking what steps they were taking to inform, educate, organize, and mobilize Black men ahead of the election.

During the DNC convention, additional prominent speakers like Bill Clinton, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were set to speak to the audience.

Nevertheless, the convention faced controversy as protestors clashed with police outside the event on Tuesday night, escalating the already charged atmosphere surrounding the gathering.
