The FBI and partners stopped an ISIS-inspired New Year’s Eve attack planned in Mint Hill, North Carolina, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, who announced the disruption on his . The suspect, an 18-year-old local, allegedly communicated online with what he believed was an Islamic State contact but was actually a government covert employee. Authorities say the plot targeted a grocery store and a fast-food restaurant and included plans to attack first responders. The case highlights effective law enforcement tradecraft and raises questions about radicalization in America.
Officials say Christian Sturdivant of Mint Hill was arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. The FBI moved quickly over the holidays to identify and neutralize the threat, according to public statements. That swift action prevented what could have been a deadly, chaotic attack on unprepared civilians celebrating New Year’s Eve. Local and federal task forces deserve credit for staying vigilant when it counted most.
Christian Sturdivant, 18, of Mint Hill — a town outside Charlotte — was arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Russ Ferguson said.
“The FBI and our partners continued working 24/7 over the holidays protecting the American people, and this case out of Charlotte foiling another alleged New Years Eve attacker is the latest example of their tremendous work,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Our teams quickly identified the threat and acted decisively — no doubt saving American lives in the process. Thanks to our Joint Terrorism Task Force and regional partners both in New York and Western North Carolina for their efforts.”
Prosecutors describe how the suspect began online chats with someone he believed was affiliated with ISIS but who was actually a government online covert employee. In one exchange on December 14, he sent an image of two hammers and a knife, signaling intent and a crude plan. He even claimed, “I will do jihad soon,” and labeled himself “a soldier of the state,” meaning ISIS, according to the criminal complaint. Those statements and images were enough to build a case and justify intervention before the plan could be executed.
These cases often involve individuals who are locally radicalized rather than foreign operatives, and this one appears to be exactly that. Evidence included a handwritten note outlining two planned attacks and a stated intent to target non-Muslims, LGBTQ people, capitalists, “Democracy, Republicanism,” law enforcement, and military personnel. The note also mentioned attacking first responders when they arrived, a tactic meant to maximize casualties and terrorize the community. It’s chilling to see such broad hostility toward multiple American institutions and groups on a single page.
Local reporting indicates the intended targets were a grocery store and a Burger King in Mint Hill, places full of families and shoppers. Attacks on soft targets like that are designed to create fear and grab headlines, which is why rapid disruption is so important. The alleged choice of blunt weapons like hammers and a knife shows how determined attackers can try to inflict harm with low-tech tools. Even unsophisticated methods can kill and maim in crowded, chaotic settings.
This man had reportedly been on the FBI’s radar since at least 2022, when a family member intervened after a prior incident. That earlier flag suggests the case involved warning signs that law enforcement and relatives took seriously. When agencies keep those warnings in play and pursue leads, they protect communities from people who escalate from troubling talk to violent plans. It is a reminder that persistent investigation and community reporting matter.
There is also an ideological mix that should alarm citizens across the political spectrum: evidence suggests a blend of Islamist extremism and leftist grievance language. That combination can produce a volatile mindset targeting many parts of American life. Recognizing this hybrid radicalization is important for shaping prevention strategies and public awareness. Law enforcement and policymakers should study such cases to better spot and stop similar threats before they develop.
Sturdivant is now in federal custody and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The case underscores the value of persistence by the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the importance of undercover online work that intercepts plots in their planning stages. Americans should be reassured that trained agents are watching and acting, but they should also stay alert and report suspicious behavior in their communities. Resolute law enforcement kept this New Year’s celebration safe for countless people.

When are all genuine Americans going to wake up and realize that all Muslims are not acceptable being that they follow a Fake Religion that is nothing but a political Ideology that seeks to conquer the human race for Satan!
To a Muslim who said he belongs to the Islamic Empire.
Wonder NO MORE, Pay attention and learn of your blaspheming error! You have a huge inaccuracy that needs to be corrected! Saying that Jesus is another prophet like Muhammad is blasphemous. First Jesus was not a mere prophet but was God Himself and therefore the Redeemer and Savior of Mankind as he said. Muhammad was only a supposed prophet and there is irrefutable evidence in the historical text of the time he lived that points to his being an outright liar and heretic as well as a criminal and child molester along with his being a polygamist! The following statements are highly accurate and actually proven.
“In 632, only months before he died, Muhammad apparently met for the first time with a Christian community as such. An official delegation of Christians, probably led by a bishop, came to Mecca from Najran in Yemen. After engaging the Christians in discussion, the Prophet is said to have realized that Christian teachings are indeed incompatible with Islam, after which the revelation followed that only Islam is acceptable to God as a religion. The Quran also says very specifically that those who refer to Jesus as God are blasphemers, and that Christians saying that Christ is the son of God is an imitation of Jews, who earlier had said that Ezra is the son of God. According to the Quran Jesus was only a servant; Jesus the son of Mary was no more than an apostle of God. Quranic verses dealing with Jesus’ death have been interpreted differently by commentators, but generally they have been taken to mean that Jesus did not die by crucifixion. For Christians the Quran has thus served as a denial of Jesus’ incarnation and death on the cross and of the reality of the Trinity.” (Oxford University Press)
These two points alone put Islam and the Muslims completely at odds with Jesus Christ and all Christians and are the enemies of such! Muhammad himself began this conflict and was the spoiler and Heretic directly attacking God’s plan as foretold by all the previous prophets going all the way back to Abraham. Things have been in conflict because of Muhammad ever since and are getting worse, this will not resolve until Islam is Chastised or obliterated as a fake religion started by a false prophet and therefore heretic!
In Summary Muslims are in complete denial of what Jesus Christ said and who He was which makes them Anti-Christ and supportive of the Devil and all that is unholy. Basically Muhammad started this Blasphemy back in 632 AD and outright declared War on Christendom! Islam you yourself stated is an EMPIRE which puts it in the category of being a Nation not a Religion! It is not a religion that is backed up with solid historical evidence and prophecy over time by many prophets other than what Muhammad said, he made it all up, the heretic! Islam seeks to conquer and must be stopped! And it will be! God’s avenging angels are going to obliterate Islam and any of its followers, they are minions of Satan!
