The FBI disrupted an alleged plot to attack the White House UFC event, arresting multiple suspects and identifying a broader network that planned explosive-laden drone strikes, a staged sniper ambush, and a second-wave assault aimed at the White House gate.

The UFC Freedom 250 at the White House drew a patriotic crowd and plenty of attention, but officials say it also became the target of a coordinated terror plan. The FBI moved quickly after uncovering discussions and evidence that pointed to a violent, multi-stage attack intended to cause mass casualties and chaos. Investigators identified dozens of participants in encrypted chat groups and made arrests in multiple locations as the probe widened.

Federal agents reportedly first detected suspicious activity on June 10, which led to an arrest in Cincinnati and further scrutiny of digital communications. An initial review of one suspect’s phone revealed interactions among at least 23 Signal users who discussed pre-operational steps. Some of those contacts allegedly planned travel to Virginia to prepare for an attack, suggesting coordination beyond a single cell.

Officials say the accused plot was elaborate: explosive drones aimed at buildings near the event to force a mass evacuation, directing panicked crowds toward a pre-staged sniper team, followed by a planned assault on the White House gate. The complexity and scope of the alleged plan prompted involvement from at least a dozen FBI field offices. That level of coordination raised immediate concerns about the number of people still at large and the potential for additional plots.

Five people were in custody as of Monday, and investigators identified 23 people as part of a potential network of plotters. The alleged plan involved using explosive-laden drones to hit buildings near the event, force a mass evacuation and steer crowds toward a pre-staged sniper team, officials said.

A “second wave” was then allegedly planned to storm the White House gate, according to officials.

Investigators traced planning conversations to encrypted messaging apps, where participants reportedly exchanged details about roles and timing. The discovery of those messages gave agents a way in, and arrests followed as the FBI pieced together who was involved and what resources they had. Law enforcement officials emphasized the importance of digital forensics in disrupting what could have been a catastrophic attack on a high-profile public event.

Authorities also say motives floated among suspects included targeting “capitalist elites,” “billionaires” and politicians tied to specific interest groups. That rhetoric underscores a political element to the alleged conspiracy and helps explain the particular focus on high-profile targets. The investigation’s geographic reach and the variety of alleged targets added urgency to the response from federal and local partners.

An initial review of one suspect’s iPhone identified at least 23 Signal users discussing pre-operational activity, officials said.

Some of those involved allegedly planned to travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, on June 12 or 13 to prepare for the attack.

FBI Director Kash Patel publicly praised the work of investigators and partners involved in stopping the plot. “While the result represented the best of investigative work, it was also nothing out of the ordinary for this law enforcement team,” Patel said. “We are built to detect, respond to, and bring to justice those who threaten the lives of American citizens — particularly during large gatherings like the historic UFC 250 fight. That’s exactly what we did here.”

Even with arrests made, officials cautioned that the scope of the network means more individuals may be implicated and additional actions may be necessary. The probe stretched across multiple field offices and required coordination with local law enforcement where suspects were located. That cooperative approach helped bring evidence together quickly and halted plans before they could be carried out.

One suspect allegedly told investigators the goal was to target “capitalist elites,” “billionaires” or politicians who received donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

The investigation stretched across at least 12 FBI field offices.

The alleged use of drones as weapons and the idea of pairing explosives with a sniper ambush represent a troubling evolution in attack planning. Such combinations increase lethality and complicate protection strategies for large events and government locations. Security experts will likely review how to harden defenses around similar gatherings going forward and how to detect early signals of coordinated threats online.

Officials continue to investigate connections, communications, and logistics tied to the alleged plot. As the inquiry progresses, more details about the suspects, their capabilities, and any unapprehended accomplices may come to light. For now, investigators say the immediate danger has been averted thanks to rapid action based on digital leads and interagency cooperation.
