If you didn’t see the Oscar awards last night then you missed something incredibly shocking.

Now, I wasn’t actually watching the awards. I honestly don’t care who wins these things. They mean nothing to me.

However, whenever I jumped on the computer last night, I happened to come across something this said Will smith had slapped Chris Rock during the award show. So, of course I’m going to click on that and watch it and see what that’s all about.

Sure enough, Will Smith got up out of his seat, walked up on stage and slapped Chris Rock right in the face.

What triggered the incident was Chris Rock, who is a comedian, made a small joke about his wife. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. This is what comedians do especially when you hire them to host award ceremony shows. Their job is to make jokes.

The joke that Chris Rock made about Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, had to do with him looking forward to seeing G.I. Jane 2. Now, this is a non-existent movie and what he was getting at was that her head was shaved or that she had no hair resembling Demi Moore in the first G.I. Jane movie.

Initially you can see Will Smith laughed about the joke, but moments later you hear Chris Rock say, “Uh oh” and laughing. Then the camera shows Will walking up on stage, walking straight up to Chris Rock and slapping him in the face.

So there’s a lot that can be said about Will Smith’s behavior, but first I want to jump to the speech that he gave after winning an award later that night.

Watch this:

Now the reason that I want to talk about this is because he invokes the name of God in his speech.

He claims that he is “overwhelmed by what God is calling him to do and be in this world.” He then goes on to tell what that calling is, “I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people.”

Let me just stop him right there. Because if he’s going to invoke the name of God and say that he is calling him to do such maniacal things as to walk up on stage in front of who knows how many people and slap someone in the face because he said something with words, that’s insanity. That’s not God calling him to do that that’s someone else.

It would be a completely different story if his wife’s physical being was in danger by Chris Rock, but that wasn’t the case. He made a joke which is what he has done for the past thirty or forty years.

Some people are defending will smith and some people are denouncing him for what he did. I’ve made my position clear on this and I think will smith acted out of Wrath and that it was unjustified. What he could have done was simply go to him privately following the incident during a commercial break or something and talk to Chris about it but that’s not what he did, he chose a different path.
