Biden Leaves Behind More Than Just Americans and Equipment in Afghanistan

Not long ago, Jim Crow Joe promised that the evacuation of Americans and allies from Afghanistan was not going to be a chaotic “boarding helicopters on rooftops” moment similar to what transpired during the Fall of Saigon in 1975.

Despite all the good faith and efforts during the hasty evacuation, there were several Saigon moments at the Hamid Karzai International Airport, and one of the most heartbreaking involved dozens of dogs contracted from a local shelter in Kabul to work with American military personnel.

K-9s trained by U.S. troops left with their human handlers, but the contract dogs were abandoned in their crates and left to deal with Taliban fighters sent to occupy the airport after the last American flight.

It is very unlikely that the local shelter will be able to get these dogs back now that the Taliban is in control. The extreme and completely misguided interpretation of Islam that the Taliban follows precludes them from caring for these dogs.

Dr. Robin R. Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane, issued a statement condemning the cruelty.

“I am devastated by reports that the American government is pulling out of Kabul and leaving behind brave U.S. military contract working dogs to be tortured and killed at the hand of our enemies. These brave dogs do the same dangerous, lifesaving work as our military working dogs, and deserved a far better fate than the one to which they have been condemned,” Ganzert said.

Their prophet Mohammed even stated that keeping dogs for services such as guarding life and property, herding, or hunting is within the purview of the Hadith, but the Taliban will probably regard them as enemy collaborators.

These dogs served various missions, but the most important was to detect explosives that could have been smuggled into the airport by ISIS terrorists, many of whom are part of groups that have been infiltrating the Taliban for years.
