Former reality TV personality and past Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt publicly criticized actor George Clooney on Friday, accusing him of hypocrisy over his wife Amal Clooney’s jewelry while he speaks out on issues like income inequality.

In a post on X, Pratt wrote: “$500M net worth George Clooney could’ve permanently housed 8 homeless people for the rest of their lives with the money he spent on a single-use dress for his wife at a 4 hour event.”

Pratt continued, “I will never tolerate a woke scold lecture from these people. Just be an ostentatious celebrity and own it.”

The post included a link to a Page Six article describing Amal Clooney’s appearance at the Venice Film Festival, where the couple has been seen multiple times this week. According to that report, she wore a custom outfit by Haider Ackermann for Tom Ford, along with a pair of Cartier earrings valued at $149,000 and a Cartier diamond bracelet valued at $225,000.

Pratt ran for mayor of Los Angeles earlier this year but did not win the race. He has continued to comment publicly on political and cultural issues since the loss.

Clooney’s Remarks

Pratt’s comments followed remarks Clooney made in a speech, quoted by People magazine, in which he addressed themes of authoritarianism and free expression:

“We’re living through a moment in time where people in charge, the people with the most money, are telling us to fear one another. But we know better than that, don’t we? Because history does teach us a lesson. It teaches us something. The first people that authoritarians tried to shut down are not politicians. They’re journalists who ask questions. They’re the artists who refuse simple answers; the filmmakers, writers, actors, and musicians who insist that someone you never met is deserving of your empathy.”

Clooney has an estimated net worth of $500 million, according to the report cited by Pratt.
