Montana Republican congressional candidate Aaron Flint used an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday to accuse his Democratic opponent, Sam Forstag, of hiding a career as a political lobbyist behind a blue-collar image.

Flint, who hosts the Montana Talks radio program and is a retired lieutenant colonel and combat veteran, told Breitbart that Forstag is “an absolute phony” who is “pretending to be this poor, blue-collar, working-class guy.” Flint said Forstag spent roughly two seasons working as a smokejumper, contrasting that with his own more than two decades of military service, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Flint also described himself as a fifth-generation Montanan.

According to Flint, Forstag previously worked as a paid lobbyist for the ACLU and Planned Parenthood, and later lobbied on behalf of the cities of Missoula and Bozeman. Flint said that work included pushing for higher property taxes and a state sales tax.

“There’s a reason they call my opponent ‘Phony Forstag.’ He’s an absolute phony,” Flint said.

Flint characterized Forstag as a “far-left LGBTQ lobbyist from Portland” and claimed his past lobbying efforts included support for policies he described as allowing “men in girls’ bathrooms” and “drag queen shows targeting kids.” Flint further alleged Forstag lobbied in favor of sanctuary city policies for illegal immigrants with criminal records, and said Forstag has aligned himself with commentator Hasan Piker, whom Flint accused of saying America “deserved” the September 11 attacks.

Flint also claimed that national Democrats are pouring money into the race because they want an “AOC-endorsed” candidate to win a House seat in what he called “the heartland of America.”

“I think Republicans are going to hold the house because the Democrats have put forward such crazy far-left candidates,” Flint said.

The interview aired on Breitbart News Saturday, which broadcasts on SiriusXM Patriot 125 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Eastern. The claims about Forstag’s record and associations reflect Flint’s own characterizations made during the broadcast; Forstag’s campaign was not quoted in the interview.
