A mistrial was declared Friday in the case against Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three young children with rubber exercise bands and leaving them face down on a basement floor. The trial had been closely watched in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and across the country.
Following the judge’s ruling, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz addressed reporters outside the courthouse. As he spoke about the three victims — Clancy’s own children — a woman standing behind him in camera view repeatedly shook her head in disagreement. She was dressed in pink, a color that has come to be associated with a group of Clancy supporters who have gathered at courthouse appearances throughout the proceedings.
When Cruz opened the floor to questions from reporters, the woman shouted over him. “You only cared when the kids were dead,” she said. “Why don’t you care about the mother?” Video of the exchange circulated widely on social media following the press conference.
Clancy’s case has drawn a vocal contingent of supporters, some of whom have appeared at the courthouse wearing pink and have expressed views online, including on TikTok, framing Clancy herself as a victim. Prosecutors have not altered their account of the underlying facts: three children died, and the case will now proceed toward further legal action following the mistrial.
No date has yet been announced for further proceedings. The Daily Presser will continue to follow developments in the case.
