A Houston training site is preparing to launch a new construction training program aimed at putting skilled-trades workers into jobs tied to the data-center construction boom driving America’s artificial intelligence buildout.
The site will run a program under America’s Workforce Academy, an initiative backed by an initial $115 million investment from Meta. The company is working with Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), CBRE, the National Urban League and local organizations on training programs in several states.
In Houston, Meta is partnering with ABC on a general construction training program set to begin Nov. 2. The program will run out of a roughly 20,000-square-foot facility near the Houston Ship Channel, equipped with classrooms, a computer lab and two bays for hands-on training. It’s operated by the Construction & Maintenance Education Foundation, a nonprofit affiliate of ABC Greater Houston.
Separately, the academy’s fiber technician training program, developed with CBRE, launched in July in Indianapolis and Columbus. The first class graduated in August, and new classes begin weekly. A Meta spokesperson said 277 students have already graduated in Ohio and Indiana. Another program is scheduled to start in Louisiana in November.
