The Department of Justice pushed back hard after Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner threatened to arrest ICE agents if they operate like the officer involved in the Minnesota shooting, sparking a wider clash between federal enforcement and local progressive officials who are trying to block or punish immigration operations.

Across several blue states, elected Democrats have moved to blunt federal immigration enforcement, crafting laws and policies they say protect communities from overreach but which the DOJ argues hamper agents from doing their jobs safely. California passed a law restricting masks and similar gear for federal officers, drawing a lawsuit from the Department of Justice on constitutional grounds, with the federal government calling the measure a deliberate risk to its agents. These fights are not abstract—federal officials say local restrictions and prosecutions can interfere with operations targeting criminal illegal immigrants and pose risks to public safety.

State attorneys general and local prosecutors have joined the push in different ways, seeking court orders or threatening local action against federal officers who carry out arrests in their jurisdictions. Minnesota’s attorney general sued DHS, accusing federal teams of an “unprecedented surge” into the state, while other city leaders have vowed criminal charges against agents they claim act unlawfully. This hands-off, defiant posture from local officials creates constitutional and practical friction that the DOJ says it will not tolerate.

Soros- funded Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner publicly said he would arrest ICE agents and seek high bail if they act like the officer involved in the Minnesota case, a statement that has legal experts and DOJ officials rolling their eyes. Krasner promised aggressive prosecutions and proudly declared that the president could not pardon federal agents in such prosecutions, a claim that misunderstands the interplay of federal supremacy and local authority. His rhetoric plays well to a base that distrusts federal immigration enforcement but sets up a constitutional showdown the DOJ and ICE are clearly prepared to litigate.

He also said that if he sees ICE operating in a fashion similar to the agent involved in the deadly Minnesota shooting, he would not hesitate to prosecute against a federal agent.

“We will arrest you. We will handcuff you. We will close those cuffs. We will put you in a cell. We will set your bail and I’m going to ask for it to be appropriately high,” said Krasner. “We will take you to trial and I’m going to do everything in my power to convict you and we will make sure you serve your entire sentence because Donald Trump has no power, whatsoever, to pardon you. That’s the way the law works.”

DOJ Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche publicly and sharply responded, making it clear the federal government sees these threats as legally hollow and dangerous to cooperative law enforcement. Federal officials argue that local prosecutions of federal agents step on the Supremacy Clause and risk deterring agents from conducting lawful, necessary operations. That blunt federal reply is meant to discourage other local officials from testing the limits of their authority against immigration enforcement teams.

Commentators and local critics pointed out the odd priorities from some progressive prosecutors who threaten federal agents while violent offenders allegedly roam neighborhoods with little accountability. Videos and local coverage have shown angry exchanges where officials denounce federal agents as “fake” and promise arrests, while complaints persist about rising crime and repeat offenders in the same cities. The contrast between defending alleged immigrations-focused operations and tolerating local lawlessness has fed a narrative that these prosecutors are selective in how they apply the law.

Acting ICE leaders have pushed back too, warning that local leaders who try to criminalize federal agents are misreading the Constitution and inviting costly legal fights they will almost certainly lose. ICE and DHS officials say their officers operate under federal law and that local attempts to arrest or prosecute federal agents after lawful operations open cities to liability and hamper national immigration goals. The agency responses are both a legal posture and a public relations move to shore up support for continued enforcement in hostile jurisdictions.

Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal echoed Krasner’s tough talk, promising to arrest those she calls mask-wearing criminals and cheerleading a campaign against federal immigration activity described by some local leaders as “fake.” Her comments, shared in public remarks, reinforce the growing local coalition willing to confront federal agents on the ground, even if that stance invites federal lawsuits and constitutional pushback. Those showdowns are likely to end up in court, where the Supremacy Clause and federal authority will be tested.

The political stakes are clear: progressive local officials want to limit enforcement they see as harmful to immigrant communities, while the federal government insists on enforcing immigration law uniformly and protecting its agents. That tension is now a courtroom and headline battle, with DOJ and ICE signaling they will defend their authority aggressively. Expect more legal filings, public sparring, and federal confirmations that local declarations to arrest federal officers will not be allowed to stand unchallenged.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.

  • It’s a shame the filthadelphia DA doesn’t want to prosecute criminals as harsh as federal law enforcement!!! These agents have been doing and hopefully will continue to remove ILLEGALS from our country to keep it safe!!!! God bless ice and to hell with DAs who protect criminals

  • He cant do squat to ice he is all smoke and mirrors. Why do Democrats always elect dummies to their positions.

  • Soros backed DA’s and big mouth idiots like the Sheriff need to be arrested and prosecuted for obstruction!

  • This is not at all about citizens that protest legally or want their voices to be heard in a legitimate manner or venue; but is instead “militant activists” actual “Criminal Conspiracy!” Every such employee like this Krasner or this type citizen are promoting SEDITION and even TREASON; therefore they should be rounded up and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as “Criminals.” And all of their “rabble-rouse escapades” should be highly publicized so that the Citizenry can see what “dark agendas are afoot and who the perps are in our society!” Scum Bag Devils like Soros have promoted this kind of evil in society to effectuate control and manipulation, overriding the Constitution and “Real Wholesome Principles or Traditional Standards,” pushing the society toward a more “Totalitarian/Oligarch Nazi” like scenario; the very Socialist HELL that minions such as AOC want and follow; like the teachings of the American COMMIE Saul David Alinsky! This is akin to the “Brown-Shirts of Nazi Germany” just prior to WWII!
America has been and is being manipulated to a deathly fall and takeover by Communists! Then the Totalitarians will swoop in and crush all of the masses! Hundreds of millions will die! Canada to our North has the internment camps already built along with Mexico to our South! The plan is already in place and moving forward in those nations!
