Shelly Headen, a Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives in Guilford County, is facing criticism after posting a photo of herself at the Dachau concentration camp site in Germany with a caption reading, “Visiting Dauchau [sic] Concentration Camp in Germany… This is where Trump supporters belong.”
Headen, who lists herself on Facebook as a CPA and business owner, is challenging incumbent Republican Rep. John Blust for a seat covering part of suburban Guilford County. Her campaign materials describe her as “running to restore human decency.”
The Dachau post is not the only remark drawing attention to Headen’s social media history. On Wednesday, she wrote: “I think our only hope is an attack on US soil… preferably Alabama, Louisiana… where the stupid people are.”
In 2024, Headen also posted a comment about Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, writing: “Why would we take advice from someone who is autistic?”
The posts were circulated widely on social media and picked up by conservative outlets including RedState and Breitbart, which highlighted the Dachau photo alongside the caption referencing Trump supporters. Dachau, the Nazi concentration camp near Munich, is estimated to have been the site of roughly 41,500 deaths.
Headen has not issued a public statement addressing the posts as of this writing. The Guilford County race between Headen and Blust will be decided in the November general election.
