Singer Madison Beer, who is engaged to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, was heckled by fans during a performance at Disneyland this week, with at least one person in the crowd shouting “fix the Chargers!” as she sang.
The Chargers have struggled to an 0-5 start this season, and Herbert’s performance has drawn criticism along with the rest of the team’s offense. Beer and Herbert became a prominent couple in the NFL offseason, but the losing streak has followed the quarterback’s fiancée even onto the stage at what is often called the “Happiest Place on Earth.”
The Chargers are coming off a bye week and are set to face the Los Angeles Rams next.
Nicolas Cage’s Madden Impression Draws Criticism
Separately, a new trailer for an upcoming biopic about the late NFL broadcaster and coach John Madden, starring Nicolas Cage, has drawn criticism online for what viewers describe as a weak impression. The film is set to stream on Prime Video in three weeks. Cage’s portrayal has been described as sounding more like Cage himself than like Madden, and the actor playing former broadcaster Pat Summerall has also drawn similar criticism.
World Series Ratings Hold Up Despite Small Markets
In Tampa, the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers has posted stronger television ratings on Fox than many expected, given that neither team plays in one of baseball’s largest media markets. Game 1 drew more than 12 million viewers, and Game 2 drew nearly 11 million, even as Game 2 competed directly against college football. Game 3 competed against an NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite the strong overall numbers, television coverage of Monday’s Game 4 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg showed a stadium crowd that appeared heavily populated by Brewers fans following a Milwaukee blowout win. The series returned to Tampa for Game 5, with the Rays looking to force a Game 6. Tampa television reporter Aileen Hnatiuk, who previously gained wide attention as a New Orleans Saints reporter, covered the Rays’ extra-innings win in Game 4.
