WWE star Drew McIntyre, a four-time world champion, is set to star in a new micro-drama series titled “Agent of Shadows,” premiering on the short-form streaming platform ReelShort on Oct. 23.

McIntyre plays a secret agent who goes undercover to protect a young girl from a billionaire arms dealer. The series also stars actor Chase Mattson and features appearances from several WWE figures, including Royce Keys, Joe Hendry, Jacob Fatu, Nikkita Lyons, Hank Walker, Tank Ledger, Michael Hayes and Booker T.

McIntyre said he became familiar with ReelShort, a platform built around short videos for social media audiences, while traveling for wrestling and film work.

“I had a look at it, it was a lot of fun, a lot of chance to show some range, and I went, heck yeah, I wanna be part of this thing,” McIntyre said. “It has the action, the comedy and it has heart, too.”

Mattson, who plays the character Adam, said his martial-arts background drew him to the project.

“I just felt like Adam, the character, was a lot like myself and I loved how much I could resonate with it so fast. I love the amount of action, comedy and a little bit of romance that was spread throughout the script. I was like, I need to be a part of this. And it was a lot different from all of the other projects that I’ve done,” Mattson said.

Mattson, who stands 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, said he was struck by McIntyre’s size on set but found him approachable.

“This dude’s a giant. I’m big, that’s a giant… But no, I didn’t know anything about him other than that – he was a big guy. And he came and I was like, ‘OK, he’s probably going to be really mean.’ But he’s the nicest guy I’ve ever met,” Mattson said. “I felt really honored to be acting alongside Drew because he had just came off of these movies with these big, heavy hitters and I’m like, ‘Oh you’re with me. This is kinda cool.'”

The project is the latest sign of McIntyre’s expanding acting résumé. He appeared in the 2024 film “The Killer’s Game” and is slated to appear in “The Last Druid” and a “Highlander” reboot, both starring Russell Crowe, with the latter also featuring WWE Hall of Famer Dave Bautista.

McIntyre pointed to the ReelShort deal as evidence that WWE’s ambitions extend well past the ring.

“I first came into the company in ’07 and I could not imagine it being any bigger and to watch the growth from then to now and seeing the company everywhere in 180 countries, 28 different languages, 800 million homes, billions with a ‘B’ social media followers, on ESPN, Netflix, billion-dollar deals cut by the billion-dollar man Nick Khan and now getting involved in the vertical-short world with ReelShort … this is not a new thing, this is a billion-dollar industry and it’s awesome,” McIntyre said.

“Agent of Shadows” is scheduled to premiere on ReelShort on Oct. 23.
