A physical fight between two passengers broke out aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Sylhet, Bangladesh, to London Heathrow on Sept. 16, sending other travelers scrambling from their seats mid-flight.
Video of the altercation, obtained by news agency Jam Press, shows the two men exchanging blows in the aisle as fellow passengers, including men and women who leapt up to intervene, tried to pull them apart. One man’s T-shirt was torn during the scuffle. Children and elderly passengers were among those on board at the time.
According to Jam Press, the confrontation began as an argument between the two men before escalating into a physical fight. The cause of the dispute has not been reported.
Cabin crew ultimately stepped in and brought the situation under control.
Mohiuddin Ahmed, general manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ public relations department, confirmed the incident in a statement.
“The flight departed Sylhet for London this morning. At some point during the flight, two passengers got into a physical altercation. The cabin crew later intervened and resolved the situation between them.”
It is not yet known whether the Metropolitan Police at Heathrow Airport made any arrests or took further action once the flight landed. Biman Bangladesh Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
Sylhet, a city in northeastern Bangladesh roughly 125 miles from the capital Dhaka, sits on a route to London that typically takes more than 11 hours, according to FlightAware.
The episode adds to a run of recent disturbances on commercial flights. Earlier this summer, an easyJet flight from Tenerife to Liverpool turned back to the airport after a brawl involving around 10 passengers broke out shortly after takeoff. In 2024, an American Airlines passenger was taken into custody after allegedly injuring a flight attendant while trying to force open a cabin door mid-flight, an incident that led three fellow passengers to restrain him with tape.
