President Trump used his Truth Social account on Saturday to urge Republican donors and party members who say they have faced threats from Democrats to report them to the Department of Justice — or send them directly to him.
“The threats being made by the Democrat Party against innocent Republican Donors and Party Members are absolutely unprecedented, and totally illegal,” Trump wrote. “Please report them to the Department of Justice, IMMEDIATELY! If you would like, send them directly to me, your President. These SLEAZEBAGS should go to jail for what they are doing. The Senate must act, and stop being pushed around to the point of the Republican Party losing Elections, and worse! Likewise, the DOJ and House of Representatives. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
The post did not cite specific incidents, but it comes amid a string of public statements from Democratic lawmakers calling for the impeachment of Attorney General Todd Blanche and, in one case, warning young people against taking jobs in the Trump administration.
Calls to impeach the attorney general
Since Election Day, two House Democrats have said publicly they would support impeaching Blanche: Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia and Rep. Deborah Ross of North Carolina.
“I personally believe that the offenses of Todd Blanche demand that he be impeached and convicted and removed from office,” Johnson said Thursday on SiriusXM’s “The Dan Abrams Show.”
Ross, appearing on the same program shortly afterward, said she also supported impeaching Blanche, though she added that Democrats “should start with” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Slotkin’s remarks on administration jobs
Trump’s post also follows comments made in October by Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, which were reported at the time by RedState.
“I want young people coming out of school to say, ‘Should I go work for the Trump administration? Like, that sounds fun, I might get an opportunity.’ I want them to be like, ‘Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that,'” Slotkin said. “I want that deterrence message sent.”
The remark drew criticism from Republicans who characterized it as an attempt to discourage people from serving in a presidential administration based on political affiliation.
Trump’s statement did not name Johnson, Ross or Slotkin directly, and it is not clear what specific threats, if any, prompted the Saturday post. The White House and the Department of Justice have not issued further comment on the matter.
