A delivery contractor operating under Amazon’s branding is closing its South Gate facility, eliminating all 106 jobs there, according to a filing with California’s Employment Development Department.

Capstone Delivery Inc. notified the state that its site at 9350 Rayo Avenue will shut down permanently on Nov. 21. The company filed its required WARN Act notice on Sept. 23.

That timeline is tight. California’s WARN Act generally calls for 60 days’ notice before a mass layoff, and counting back 60 days from Nov. 21 lands on Sept. 22 โ€” one day before Capstone’s filing date. The gap does not by itself prove a violation: the filing date is not necessarily the date workers were told, coverage can depend on an employer’s specific circumstances, and the law carries an exception for a physical calamity or an act of war. Still, the dates on paper leave only a single day’s margin.

The closure is listed as permanent rather than a relocation, meaning the South Gate site will cease operations entirely rather than move elsewhere.

The job losses break down as 94 Delivery Associates, six Helpers and six Managers โ€” all 106 positions at the facility.

Capstone has run the South Gate operation for about six years, since 2020, serving as an Amazon Delivery Service Partner across the greater Los Angeles area. Workers there drive Amazon-branded vehicles and wear Amazon uniforms, though they are employed by the contractor, not Amazon itself.

The company is owned and operated by Katia Daher Anenberg, who immigrated from Lebanon at 19 and worked at a Los Angeles mall before enrolling at Santa Monica College and later transferring to UC Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Development.

Capstone’s shutdown is not an isolated event. A Freight Distress Report cited reductions or closures at 15 companies across nine states, affecting roughly 1,850 workers in the delivery and logistics sector.

For now, the date that matters most to the 106 South Gate employees is Nov. 21 โ€” their last scheduled day on the job.
