Patrick Clancy, the Massachusetts father whose three children were killed by their mother in January 2023, has given his first public interview since a jury deadlocked in her murder trial earlier this month.
Clancy sat down with 60 Minutes for an interview set to air in full this Sunday. A clip released Thursday shows interviewer Ross Douthat asking Clancy whether he still talks to his children.
“What do you say?” Douthat asks. “Help me. All the time,” Clancy responds.
Clancy’s ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, was charged with murdering their three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and eight-month-old Callan — at the family’s home in Norfolk County in January 2023. She recently stood trial, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict, resulting in a mistrial.
Patrick Clancy is the parent who discovered the children in the basement of the home with exercise bands tied around their necks after Lindsay had sent him out to pick up dinner and medicine for Cora. He also found Lindsay in the backyard after she jumped from a second-story window in what prosecutors described as a suicide attempt. His 911 call was played for jurors during the trial, and one juror later recalled hearing a “visceral, blood curdling scream” from Clancy as he found the children and tried to save them. Cora and Dawson died that day; Callan died a few days later.
During the trial, Clancy testified about his ex-wife, describing her as a loving and dedicated mother who had nonetheless struggled with mental health issues for years. He said he had gone with her to psychiatric appointments and had helped her look into in-patient treatment programs.
Since the mistrial, some online commentators have suggested Clancy bore responsibility for what happened to his children, with a handful going so far as to allege he was involved in the deaths himself. Clancy’s attorney has pushed back forcefully against those claims, calling them a “campaign of misinformation” driven by people seeking attention or profit.
“This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”
Clancy had remained silent publicly in the nearly two weeks since the mistrial was declared. The full interview airs this Sunday on 60 Minutes.
