Netflix’s official UK and Ireland account is facing a wave of subscriber cancellations after posting a joke referencing a “neck injury” on September 10, the one-year anniversary of the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University.

The post, shared Thursday, featured a photo of a male character from “The Gentlemen” straining to look at a woman, captioned: “Nearly did himself a neck injury.” Kirk was fatally shot in the neck one year earlier while engaging in dialogue with a student on the UVU campus in Orem, Utah.

The timing drew swift criticism online, with commenters flooding the post to announce they were ending their Netflix subscriptions. Conservative commentator Jack Posobiec, a close friend of Kirk’s, wrote, “Cancel Netflix completely.”

Other users posted screenshots of cancellation confirmation emails. One wrote simply, “Bye,” while another said, “Hulu it is.” A third user posted, “Go to hell. Motherfuckers.”

The Libs of TikTok account said it had already canceled its subscription, writing, “I’m so glad I canceled my subscription. You guys are sick.”

“Years ago Netflix brought me in to discuss doing Faith based films. At the end of our meeting, the executives looked at me and said ‘we understand that there’s an audience for the kind of movies you make, we just don’t know why.’ These people are sick.” — actor Kevin Sorbo

Commentator Graham Allen wrote, “The worst people! No wonder NETFLIX stock has TUMBLED!” Another user shared a screenshot showing a decline in Netflix’s stock price, writing, “Keep going.”

Mike Cernovich, another conservative commentator, wrote, “This is the mainstream Democrat view. They are murderous.”

Other reactions on the post ranged from “What the fuck is wrong with you people?” to a comment predicting the post would resurface “when your subscription service fails” and adding, “Bless you Charlie. I am sorry these people are so cruel.”

One user called the timing of the post “kind of actually insane for an official Netflix account” to publish “on the anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s death.”

Kirk was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University, where Turning Point USA is returning Wednesday to host a memorial event called “Freedom Built to Last.” The gathering is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MST at the UCCU Center on UVU’s campus and will be livestreamed on the organization’s social media pages.
