Michelle Obama and Sharon Stone Riff on a World Where Men Could Get Pregnant

Former First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Sharon Stone traded jokes during a recent conversation about what the world might look like if men, rather than women, were the ones who became pregnant.

“If men could get pregnant, you could get an abortion from a vending machine,” Stone said, prompting laughter from Obama.

Obama built on the bit, imagining a “birth-Olympics” in which men would film themselves in labor and be celebrated for enduring pain without medication. “Men would film themselves going into labor, and honoring their pain, you know? There would be trophies given,” she said, before mimicking a man cheering another on: “Well done, dude! Bob, you did that without an epidural!”

Stone added that in this hypothetical, “maternity leave would be when you got the bonus.”

At one point, Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, attempted to steer the conversation elsewhere, which Obama noted with a laugh. “This is why we don’t get help, you know? They’re [men] like, ‘Well, I’m bored with this conversation. Let’s talk about sports,'” she said. Stone replied sarcastically, “Moving on!” Robinson protested, “I didn’t push the sports,” to which Obama shot back, “Not yet,” before reaching for her coffee and saying, “We were just getting started, weren’t we, Sharon?”

Stone’s remarks on women’s health

Earlier in the discussion, Stone raised complaints about the state of women’s health research and product testing. “No one told me, like, this is how you have your period, this is what a tampon — look, they didn’t test tampons on human blood until 2026,” she said. Manufacturers have historically used saline solution in testing rather than biological fluids, because saline is cheaper, safer and easier to handle, according to Scientific American.

Stone also said, “We didn’t do medical research on women OB-GYN really until the 2000s. And now we don’t want to give women care? OB-GYN care?”

She then said, “We want to prosecute women for having a miscarriage! What kind of archaic bullshit is this?” There is no documented instance of a woman being convicted for the medical fact of having a miscarriage itself.
