Portland Armed Suspect Shoots Two Officers, Remains At Large

Portland is reeling after two local police officers were shot while on duty, a suspect remains at large, and the incident is being discussed in the context of the city’s broader unrest and anti-ICE protests.

On Monday night two Portland Police officers were shot in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood and are currently reported in stable condition. The shooting appears to have involved a suspect who fired at officers and then vanished, leaving law enforcement and the community searching for answers.

Authorities released a description and a photo of the man believed to be responsible, a white male in his mid-30s with facial hair who wore dark clothing and carried a black backpack and a green shopping bag. The initial search reportedly concluded without locating him, and investigators say he may be armed with both a knife and a handgun. The public is being asked to remain vigilant while police continue follow-up work.

 The Portland Police Bureau released a photo of a suspect who allegedly shot two officers in the Sullivan’s Gulch neighborhood Monday evening.

In a press release Tuesday morning, PPB said the initial search for the suspect has concluded, however a suspect was never found.

Around 8:20 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a reported threat with a weapon on Northeast 21^st Avenue and Northeast Clackamas Street between NE 16^th Ave. and NE 17^th Ave.

According to police, the suspect fired shots at officers. Two officers were transported to the hospital by ambulance. “Their conditions are stable,” PPB said in a press release early Tuesday.

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-30s with facial hair and was wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes the night of the incident.

He is belived (sic) to be armed with a knife and a handgun, authorities said, noting he was also seen with a black backpack and a green shopping bag.
