BLM Seattle Treasurer Arrested on Drug, Weapons Charges After Governor’s Commutation

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has once again demonstrated why his decision-making continues to raise serious concerns. His administration has consistently pushed radical policies that prioritize ideology over public safety and common sense, and the consequences are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

One of his most egregious moves came in 2023, when he signed a deeply controversial bill allowing strangers—without parental consent—to provide shelter to minors seeking gender transition procedures or abortions. This alarming decision effectively stripped parents of their rights and put children in the hands of activists instead of their own families.

But Inslee’s radical agenda extends far beyond parental rights. His administration has also pushed reckless policies that benefit illegal immigrants at the expense of hardworking taxpayers. In 2022, he championed a plan to offer health and dental coverage to illegal immigrants through the Affordable Care Act—despite Washingtonians already struggling under the weight of high taxes and skyrocketing healthcare costs. Instead of ensuring that legal residents receive the care they need, Inslee prioritized people who broke the law to enter the country.

His leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was equally troubling, marked by authoritarian-style restrictions that crushed businesses and violated individual freedoms. He mandated the closure of indoor dining and gyms, banned choir performances, and even prohibited receptions at weddings and funerals—policies that devastated local economies and trampled on personal liberties. In 2021, he took it a step further by requiring large events to verify attendees’ COVID-19 vaccination status or test results, further alienating those who refused to comply with his heavy-handed mandates.

Beyond his flawed policy decisions, Inslee’s inability to properly assess character has had disastrous consequences. Take the case of Percy Levy, a convicted felon whose sentence Inslee personally commuted in 2019. Levy had served 17 years in prison for a violent drug-related robbery, yet Inslee deemed him rehabilitated enough to re-enter society. What happened next should serve as a stark warning about the dangers of Inslee’s misguided belief in leniency over accountability.

Since his release, Levy became involved with Black Lives Matter Seattle-King County as a treasurer and was active in the Washington Defender Association, an organization that has advocated for reducing penalties for criminals. He also launched Redemption Auto, a car dealership that touted his clemency as proof of successful rehabilitation. His bio on the dealership’s website celebrated his so-called “dedication” to reforming the criminal justice system.

Yet behind the carefully crafted image of redemption, Levy was engaging in criminal activities once again. In March 2024, he was arrested in Everett, Washington, and hit with a staggering list of charges, including two counts of unlawful firearm possession, possession of a stolen firearm, and eight counts related to drug possession with intent to sell. If convicted, Levy faces up to 10 years in prison—a grim reminder that Inslee’s decision to commute his sentence may have only endangered the public.

The arrest was the result of a 16-month investigation by the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force, which worked alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. When they executed a search warrant on Levy’s home, what they found was shocking.

Authorities discovered over 2,800 grams of powder cocaine, 14.7 grams of crack cocaine, and 556 grams of fentanyl—an amount that, according to the DEA, could have been lethal to more than 250,000 people. Investigators also uncovered a stolen handgun and additional evidence linking Levy to drug distribution operations.

What makes this case even more absurd is the fact that just hours before his arrest, Levy was testifying remotely before the Washington State House Public Safety Committee. His remarks were focused on how the Department of Corrections should handle transportation for released convicts—showcasing the disturbing reality that a career criminal was being treated as an authority on criminal justice reform.

Shockingly, Democratic state Rep. Roger Goodman went so far as to praise Levy for his “successful transition” from prison, demonstrating just how blind some lawmakers are to the real threats posed by criminals who exploit leniency.

Despite the glowing endorsements from Washington Democrats, Levy now sits behind bars with a $1.5 million bond, as reported by KIRO-TV. His once-celebrated Redemption Project of Washington now looks like a cruel joke, especially in light of the devastation his drug trade could have caused. On the organization’s website, Levy had previously written about the “joy” he found in helping others transition out of prison, claiming he “would not change it for the world.” Given his arrest, it’s clear that he never truly changed at all.

The question now is whether Gov. Inslee and his supporters will take responsibility for the disastrous consequences of their criminal justice policies. Inslee’s decision to grant clemency to Levy was not an isolated incident—it reflects his wider pattern of prioritizing criminals over law-abiding citizens. His approach to governance has been defined by reckless leniency, radical social policies, and a complete disregard for public safety.

Supporters of Inslee may try to argue that his policies are based on compassion and the belief in rehabilitation, but this case destroys that narrative. When a convicted felon, granted an undeserved second chance, goes on to engage in high-level drug trafficking and firearm possession, it proves that Inslee’s policies do not protect Washingtonians—they put them in danger.

Inslee’s leadership has consistently undermined public safety, eroded parental rights, and prioritized criminals over victims. The Levy case should serve as a wake-up call about the dangers of soft-on-crime policies, yet Inslee and his Democratic allies seem incapable of learning from their mistakes. How many more criminals will be released, only to reoffend, before Washington voters say enough is enough?

In the end, Inslee’s failed policies will continue to harm the very communities he claims to serve. The people of Washington deserve leadership that values law and order, not reckless ideological experiments that endanger the public. This is a crisis of leadership—one that cannot be ignored any longer.
