A golfer in Estes Park, Colorado, hit a tee shot toward a large, well-known bull elk named Smash and chose to abandon the ball rather than play it where it landed.
Smash has built a local reputation this year for chasing trucks and golf carts that venture too close. According to video shared by Good Bull Outdoors, the golfer lined up her shot, hit it in Smash’s direction, then grabbed a new ball from a companion rather than retrieve the original one near the animal.
Good Bull Outdoors described the moment in a post: “Golfers trying to get back (unintentionally) at Smash for all his antics this year! She had to abandon her original drive because it landed right next to Smash but her second shot looked good!”
A woman identifying herself as the golfer responded to the post with an explanation for the errant shot: “That was me! Lol I might have been a bit distracted everyone likes a nice rack.”
Good Bull Outdoors noted that her follow-up effort fared much better, writing, “Smash is definitely distracting. That follow up shot looked pretty good though!”
The incident is the latest example of Smash’s growing notoriety around Estes Park, where the bull elk has previously been recorded charging at vehicles, including one widely shared video showing him smashing a car window.
