New York Magazine has released the inaugural edition of its “Men’s Style” issue, and transgender actor Elliot Page appears partially nude on the cover.
The issue carries the subtitle “Men’s Style: A Special Issue about Putting Clothes on and Taking Them Off Again.” It went on sale this week.
New York Magazine says it has covered men’s fashion for decades, pointing to a 1971 piece asking whether men would adopt high heels and a 1996 review of male supermodels. But editors say this marks the first time the publication has produced a full special issue dedicated to men’s fashion and health. Editors describe the accompanying photography as featuring male stars wearing “some fashion, but hardly any.”
Page also appears in a separate feature on New York City’s current bathhouse scene, accompanied by a photo taken at a bathhouse. In the accompanying text, Page explains the appeal of the setting.
“I went to a bathhouse recently,” Page says in the issue. “I’ve only in the past couple of years been like, Yeah, that sounds nice, to like go somewhere and sit around in your body like that. I do sing in the shower sometimes. The same songs and lyrics will get stuck in my head, and I don’t know why. Like ‘Do you believe in life after love?’ That’s one I’ll belt out. Or ‘The Sound of Music’: I’ve never seen the movie, which seems crazy, but for some reason I find myself belting out that song in the shower. I can’t explain it.”
Page first shared a post-operative, shirtless photo publicly in May 2021, posting to Instagram with the caption “Trans bb’s first swim trunks.” The image showed surgical scars from Page’s mastectomy. The post drew supportive comments from other celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, who called the photo “hot,” and actress Ilana Glazer, who described Page as a “handsome boi.”
