A controversial bill under discussion in Maine’s state legislature proposes granting authorities the ability to remove children from parents who object to medical providers enforcing “gender-affirming care” for their children.
The bill, LD1735, clearly outlines this unprecedented authority.
In its summary, it clearly states, “The bill authorizes a court to take temporary jurisdiction because a child has been unable to obtain gender-affirming health care or gender-affirming mental health care.”
It appears that no consideration has been given to accommodate religious objections.
Parents would not have any authority over the matter; they would either be compelled to expose their children to potentially harmful and irreversible transgendering drugs and surgeries, or risk losing custody of them to the state.

If the bill is approved and enacted, Maine would align itself with other states in prioritizing the rights of the transgender movement over parental rights.
Last year, Washington implemented a law that prevents parents who are estranged from their children undergoing transgender treatment from having any influence on their medical decisions.
Similarly, California passed a law last year that requires courts to consider conflicts regarding “gender-affirming care” in custody cases, giving preference to the child’s desire for transgender treatment despite parental objections.
Additionally, New York’s Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill into law that safeguards minors seeking transgender treatment in the state, regardless of their residency or citizenship status.

Children are not intelligent enough to make a decision regarding so called “gender change.” It should really be called mutilation of a human body. God created us as either male or female and that cannot be changed.
I don’t think “intelligence” is the issue, but rather maturity, particularly since minor children are so susceptible to influences of peer groups and authority figures. Teens are often willing to accept the opinions of a trusted teacher or counselor at the same time they view their parents as idiots. Right now, minors aren’t allowed to get tattoos without the presence and consent of their parents are guardians, and in many states even ear piercing for any under 16 requires parental consent. Yet states think that children should be able to make even more serious, permanent, and consequential decisions of gender change. Simply ludicrous!

This move by the State of Maine is outrageous. Parents have the primary responsibility of raising and caring for their children – not the State. Sooner or later, someone is going to file a lawsuit, and that lawsuit will be appealed to the Supreme Court, which will strike down such Laws all over the country.
