In a controversial and headline-grabbing move, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has enacted a policy banning biological males from using women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill. This decision follows Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-S.C.) introduction of a resolution that aimed to protect single-sex spaces, igniting a fierce national debate over gender identity, privacy, and inclusivity.
Rep. Nancy Mace announced her resolution on Monday, citing a commitment to preserving privacy and safety for women. According to Mace, the resolution was a direct response to the recent election of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), the first openly transgender member of Congress.
“Biological men do not belong in women’s restrooms,” Mace stated emphatically. “It’s an invasion of privacy, and women deserve the right to their own spaces.”
Mace’s proposal faced immediate backlash from progressive groups and activists, with critics accusing her of discrimination and fueling anti-trans rhetoric. However, Mace remained steadfast, even in the face of hate messages and death threats. She took to social media to double down on her position, insisting the measure was about protecting women, not targeting anyone personally.
“I will not apologize for standing up for science and the truth,” Mace declared.
Inspired by Mace’s stance, Speaker Mike Johnson took swift action. On Wednesday, Johnson issued a formal statement instituting a bathroom policy that restricts access to Capitol Hill’s single-sex facilities based on biological sex.
Johnson justified the move by emphasizing the importance of protecting women’s privacy while noting the availability of alternatives, such as unisex restrooms.
“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson’s statement read.
He also clarified that members of Congress have access to private restrooms within their offices, while unisex facilities remain available for general use throughout the Capitol complex.
“This is about ensuring fairness and privacy for all,” Johnson added.
The announcement has deepened the already divisive national conversation about gender identity and public accommodations. Supporters of the policy argue that it aligns with biological realities and protects women from potential privacy violations.
“Women fought hard for their rights and their spaces. This isn’t about exclusion—it’s about fairness,” said one Republican lawmaker backing Johnson’s decision.
Critics, however, view the move as discriminatory and harmful to transgender individuals. LGBTQ+ advocacy groups condemned the policy as a step backward for inclusivity and equality.
“Policies like this send a harmful message to transgender people, particularly youth, that they are not welcome or accepted,” said a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign.
McBride, the newly elected congresswoman whose historic election partly prompted the resolution, has yet to comment on the policy directly. However, she has previously spoken about the challenges transgender individuals face in navigating public spaces and government institutions.
The Capitol Hill bathroom debate is the latest flashpoint in a broader cultural battle over gender and public policy. Across the country, states have introduced legislation addressing access to restrooms, sports participation, and other issues involving transgender rights.
Mace and Johnson’s actions align with a growing conservative push to preserve single-sex spaces, which they argue are essential for safeguarding women’s rights. Advocates of these measures often point to polls showing public support for maintaining gender-based distinctions in certain contexts, particularly when it comes to restrooms and sports.
Opponents contend these policies are rooted in fear and misinformation rather than evidence. They argue that inclusive policies do not compromise privacy or safety and that discrimination against transgender individuals perpetuates stigma and mental health challenges.
The decision to enforce single-sex bathroom policies could have significant political ramifications. For Republicans, it reinforces their platform’s focus on family values and cultural conservatism, energizing their base ahead of upcoming elections.
Democrats, meanwhile, are likely to use the policy as a rallying cry for their own supporters, framing it as an attack on LGBTQ+ rights and a sign of broader intolerance.
As the debate unfolds, the Capitol Hill bathroom policy is likely to become a symbol of the broader cultural divide gripping the nation. Whether seen as a defense of women’s rights or a rollback of inclusivity, the policy underscores the complexities of navigating gender issues in an increasingly polarized society.
For Speaker Johnson, the decision to act on Mace’s resolution signals a willingness to lean into controversial cultural battles. Whether this move resonates with voters or further alienates certain groups remains to be seen.
What is clear, however, is that the fight over gender identity, privacy, and public accommodations is far from over.
Hooray for Speaker Johnson. I can’t wait for the “victim” screed from Levine. If unisex bathrooms are available the response to the wailing should be “shut up and use the bathroom for confused people.”
I am glad to hear this. I hope this spreads across our entire Nation.
There are Two sexes. I don’t care what anyone wants to PRETEND to be. What these people want is NOT MORE IMPORTANT than what EVERYONE else is entitled to. If you were born a man then you belong in men’s restrooms, locker rooms, sports, etc. If you were born a woman, you belong in women’s spaces. Just because you can’t accept what you are doesn’t give you the right to infringe on spaces that you do not belong in. You are not special. You are not entitled to infringe on the rights of others. YOU find a way to live in your pretend world that works for you without taking anyone else’s rights away. YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL and you have no right to think you can do whatever you want to do
at the expense of everyone else. People don’t care what you want to do with your personal life. We aren’t haters or homophobic or anything else. We just want to feel safe and we have always had certain things separated between men and woman for a reason. You have no right to try to change this.
Julie; “infringe on spaces that you do not belong in!” And that is exactly what’s been going on for too darn long! You stated this perfectly and I haven’t heard it explained any better ever!
“Great advocacy for truth and justice and back to normal proper thinking and behavior,” and those that don’t want to accept what “the majority of human beings know to be the truth” have to accommodate their own pretend world “without imposing on others” or just “keep their nightmare to themselves!” If they want to be given sympathy and understanding there are plenty of qualified psychiatrists to sit and hold their hands in counseling!
Now that’s what I call doing a good job! This issue is a “No Brainer” but mostly “nit-wits” without a functioning brain have been driving the issue to full implementation from the “Left and Loony” side of the aisle; and it had to be “Stopped” once and for all!
Time to Wake Up America and, Make America Great Again for Real!
“In God We Trust!”
RESTORE the REPUBLIC that was destroyed in 1865. Make We the People, the gov’t. again (self restrained) (moral)
Tim, better place to be than where our nation has been for many years now!
GOOD.! I can’t wait for the stupid idiots who claim to be a woman but were born a male and have a worm between his legs with a pair of his two nut buddies, go berserk and start their violent protests calling Speaker Johnson’s rulling Unconstitutional.!
That’s what the dumbasses think, that it’s in the Constitution, too allow men in restrooms with women.
Read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights you Morons.!
OOP’s,, I forgot.! Far left Morons don’t know how to read, and make up their own rights.
Hahaha! That worm part is funny as heck! What did the Marine DI say to the recruits, “grow a pair” and here we have these “numb-nuts” that have a pair “trying to pretend they don’t” or even go as far as “to have them chopped off” to prove how “Thick Headed and Evil” they are!
Well if a person can’t accept the real world (reality) and what they actually are, then they should be locked away in a safe “Institutional Space” with the “totally Bonkers and Insane,” that is how it was always done and should be again! “Make America Sane Again!!!”
All because, The corrupted by “Marxists” system with some of these “wacky judges” appointed by the Democrats who have for too long pushed this “Funny Farm BS” on the public, and twisted the “Constitution into a Pretzel.”
And now it’s “time to straighten it all out” and anyone that won’t see things as they really are should “find another country to infect and infest with your lunacy and evil!”
Enough Already!
Yes my brother, it’s time to tell them enough already.
But Communist voters are way too stupid to get back to reality. Their brains are fried and they belong to the Communist Democrats now.
Thankfully there’s more sane people who are seeing what’s happening and they’ve proved it when President Trump won.
Brother Michael this is true, we have many “indoctrinated commies or Leftist lunatics.” But the paradigm is flipping through God’s grace bringing His light and truth to many middle of the road, on the fence or lukewarm types that are so conditioned in our messed up society. And if this is all going to continue many more years, then when things “flip the right way” many newer youngest Citizens like these Gen Z’s just did will see how they “can’t allow themselves to be swept into that cauldron of deception and lies” that the Demoncrap Party and Rino’s promoted for too damn long! Things could get much better moving forward if it’s God’s will.
“Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.”
Psalm 128:1
sadly, this fraud of a “man” abandoned the unborn in Louisiana, just months B 4 taking the speaker of the house position. He needs to publicly repent. Can Amerika survive another double minded RINO with our checkbook? We are fools if we do….
Timothy, I’m not all up on everything revealed or hidden about him. But when McCarthy got the boot and Johnson was chosen he didn’t pass my stink test as I detected something off about him and then he began to prove I was right when he was voting against some conservative measures on Democrat plans being pushed as they ruled! I even tried to give him the benefit of the doubt how he may be in a bind and had to let things play our like a tightrope balancing act until the GOP could get more control, playing politics to wait for the right opportunity to come. But He has to do some heroic things yet to convince me that he can be truly trusted.
These damn Rino’s can be very slippery eels and he has a look I don’t like! Like my dad always told us growing up when making promises, “time will tell!”
I agree with Mace and Johnson this has gone too far. what they propose is a great idea.
good for him, finally a man with balls in washington!
“Men do not belong in women’s restrooms!”
Males have an X and Y chromosomes; and that with their “ding-a-ling” and “a pair” makes them boys; so stay the hell out of the girl’s room you perverts!
