BREAKING NEWS: O.J. Simpson has passed away at 76 after a battle with cancer.

His family announced this breaking news on X earlier today.

LOOK:

As reported by TMZ, news of O.J. Simpson’s cancer battle surfaced in February with unclear details. Simpson himself had mentioned in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with cancer but believed he had overcome it.

O.J. Simpson’s life took a dramatic turn, from his successful football career to his later struggles.

Simpson rose to fame as a standout running back for the USC Trojans, winning prestigious awards such as the Heisman Trophy in 1968.

He was then drafted as the first overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in 1969 and spent nine seasons with them before moving to the San Francisco 49ers for two seasons.

Despite retiring as the NFL’s second all-time leading rusher (now 21st), he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

After football, Simpson ventured into acting, notably starring in the Naked Gun film series alongside Leslie Nielsen. He also worked as a commentator for Monday Night Football and The NFL on NBC.

On June 15, 1994, everything changed when O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were brutally murdered. This led to a highly publicized Bronco chase on TV, ending with Simpson surrendering to police and being charged with the murders.

Despite prosecution errors and a strong defense led by Johnnie Cochran, Simpson was acquitted of the murders on October 3, 1995. However, he was later found responsible for the deaths in a civil trial in February 1997 but never paid the damages.

In 2007, Simpson faced karma when he was involved in a Vegas hotel room break-in to reclaim stolen sports memorabilia, armed with accomplices.

He was sentenced to 33 years in prison on December 5, 2008, with parole granted on July 20, 2017.

  • His acquittal was caused by the inept LA Deputy DA’s who handled the case. Why they would ever have had O. J. Simpson try on blood-hardened and shrunken gloves is beyond me. Having a member of the glove manufacturer in court with identical gloves that were not blood-hardened and shrunken would have sunk O. J. Simpson in a heartbeat. They would have fit perfectly. It was not Cochran who won the case, it was the DA’s Office which lost it.

    • That is an excellent point. I read an article at the time of the trial. It had drawings of the crime scene and various locations of evidence and people who knew the people involved at the time of the murder. It also gave possible defense strategies. It was obvious to me that Simpson committed the murders. I had a friend come to my work and I asked him what he thought the trial would be like. He said ” It will be an embarrassment.” That is exactly what it was. Based on the makeup of the jury, there was no way Simpson would be found guilty. I have to give credit to Fred Goldman for pursuing Simpson in a civil court where he was found responsible for the murders. The “Dream Team” just slinked away except for the brassy Johnnie Cochran.

  • well he will now meet a judge he can’t BS! A jury that knows for certain! And a sentence that is forever!

  • Why has it come out the type of of cancer that O.J. Simpson had?
Nearly everyone who ever died of cancer that had a national presence in the media especially Hollywood stars or Gridiron players of any repute when faced with cancer it’s almost always mentioned what kind of cancer be it lung, prostate or kidney, liver or any of the myriad other types that can affect humans or animals

  • Thank God and good riddance. the world is much safer now that OJ is no.longer with us. He will certainly burn for his crimes.
