While Senator-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA) remains a polarizing figure among conservatives, his latest comments on ABC’s This Week may have unintentionally strengthened the case for Kash Patel to be the next FBI Director. Schiff criticized Patel’s qualifications and ideas, inadvertently fueling conservative support for Patel’s hardline stance on reforming the FBI.
Last month, former President Donald Trump officially announced his intention to nominate Patel as FBI Director should he win a second term. Patel, a veteran with extensive experience in counter-terrorism and intelligence, served in high-ranking positions under Trump. His tenure included spearheading operations to dismantle ISIS leadership and orchestrating the safe return of American hostages. Patel’s record, combined with his open disdain for what he terms the “Deep State,” has made him a favorite among conservatives eager for a shake-up at the FBI.
In a prior interview on the Shawn Ryan Show, Patel outlined bold plans for reform, including shutting down the FBI’s Hoover Building and converting it into a “museum of the Deep State.” He argued that this would both preserve the history of government overreach and free FBI personnel to focus on fieldwork against criminal threats.
Conservative commentator Steve Bannon praised Patel’s vision, asserting, “Patel’s approach is exactly what’s needed to restore credibility to the FBI.”
However, Schiff took issue with Patel’s proposals, dismissing them as evidence of unfitness for the role. On This Week, Schiff said, “Kash Patel is someone who is not qualified to be FBI Director. He’s a conspiracy theorist. He’s even proposed shutting down FBI headquarters and turning it into a museum of the Deep State.”
Schiff’s remarks have been met with mixed reactions. To conservatives, his scathing critique serves as a tacit acknowledgment that Patel’s plans would disrupt the entrenched bureaucracy that critics accuse of political bias. Patel’s supporters argue that such reforms are overdue, citing a series of high-profile controversies involving the FBI.
The FBI has faced mounting scrutiny for alleged misconduct and partisanship, including:
- Amplifying claims in 2020 that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation.
- Targeting Tara Reade after her sexual assault allegations against President Biden.
- Refusing to classify the 2017 congressional baseball shooting as domestic terrorism, despite the attacker’s explicit political motives.
- Embedding informants during the January 6 protests, allegedly to agitate crowds.
Adding to these grievances, Patel himself has claimed he was surveilled by the FBI during his tenure in the Trump administration.
Many conservatives view Schiff’s criticism of Patel as an unintentional endorsement. By highlighting Patel’s commitment to addressing perceived FBI corruption, Schiff has inadvertently rallied support for Trump’s nominee. “Schiff’s comments remind us why we need someone like Patel who isn’t afraid to take on the status quo,” said one GOP strategist.
Despite these endorsements, Patel’s nomination faces significant hurdles. Democrats, who control the Senate, are unlikely to approve a candidate with such an openly adversarial stance toward the FBI. Additionally, Patel’s rhetoric and polarizing reputation could alienate moderate lawmakers whose votes are essential for confirmation.
Patel’s nomination is emblematic of a broader debate over the future of federal law enforcement. Critics of the FBI argue that the agency’s perceived partisanship undermines its legitimacy and effectiveness. Reform advocates like Patel see structural changes as the only way to restore public trust. Conversely, defenders of the agency contend that such drastic measures would hinder its ability to combat crime and protect national security.
As Trump positions himself for a potential 2024 presidential run, Patel’s nomination underscores the former president’s broader strategy to challenge Washington’s institutional norms. Whether this approach will resonate with voters or backfire politically remains to be seen.
Patel has yet to comment publicly on Schiff’s remarks, but his supporters remain undeterred. For them, the stakes extend beyond one nomination; they see Patel as a symbol of a broader fight against what they perceive as entrenched corruption in Washington.
As the Senate prepares to consider Patel’s nomination, the debate over his qualifications and vision for the FBI is set to intensify. Schiff’s opposition, while expected, may ironically galvanize support among conservatives eager to see the changes Patel promises to bring.

That is saying it straight and forward just like it is! I lived out there quite a few years back and it was dying then but nowhere near as bad as it is now; but I saw back then how the vile corruption would ruin any of the good, so I said later! Sure glad I got out and what a hell-hole it is now, look at its largest cities and it’s like third world hellish nightmares daily; out of control modern day “Sodom and Gomorrah,” and Newscum is the “Devil leader who wears Armani or Prada” being the equivalent to the movie the “Devil wears Prada.” Out there one doesn’t have to look very far to see just how “sick and evil” people can be in high public office!
@ Michael Smith:
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Two thumbs-up for you.
Somebody smack that boy!!
Trump should place Patel in the position subject to confirmation and or replacement. He should then REFUSE any replacement other than Patel.
The issue is that the Democrats have been creating a situation wherein the PEOPLE do not trust nor do they believe in anything the FBI is doing.
Regardless of all that, Trump needs to remove all FBI headquarters from anywhere closer than 500 miles to DC. Literally dissolve the FBI into 5 distinct sub-classes with directed specific tasks: Leaving ONLY a single group to be reported to regarding anything that a sub-class finds that is not within thier purview. The removal of ALL federal agencies from DC is an important first task
Great suggestion and I see how it would be beneficial in numerous way! Also we all know how absolute power corrupts absolutely and that is all the FBI has been doing over the last several decades!
