Last Wednesday night in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago, 81-year-old Ernie Aimone, a Vietnam veteran, was unexpectedly attacked by a group of teens who proceeded to steal his 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Following a brief pursuit by the police, the vehicle was eventually crashed.

“They said, ‘Give me the keys’ and sucker-punched me from behind, hit me in the face. I was afraid for my life,” Ernie Aimone said to ABC 7 Chicago. “I got a daughter and a son. I gotta live for them.”

He stated that he did not resist during the incident. He remained on the ground with his face down on the street while the teenagers fled with his cellphone and car.

After some time, law enforcement authorities identified Ernie’s Hyundai on the highway. The culprit crashed the vehicle following a brief pursuit.

Ernie has been working as a pizza delivery driver for Joe’s on Higgins for four decades, and many customers specifically request him for their orders.

Ernie Aimone is a well-known figure in the neighborhood, cherished by all who regard him as part of their extended family.

A GoFundMe was set up to pay for car repairs or to buy a new car so Ernie can resume delivering pizzas.

“While he’s become a bit of a local legend, he has fallen on hard times as of late. Just a few nights ago, Ernie was carjacked by multiple individuals, who stole his phone, took his car for a joyride, and left the vehicle extremely damaged.” the GoFundMe, which was set up by the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce said.

Ernie’s resilience and unwavering dedication to his job despite facing such adversity is truly admirable.

His commitment to providing for his family and serving his community as a pizza delivery driver for four decades has earned him a special place in the hearts of those around him.

As we reflect on this incident, let us not only condemn the senseless violence that Ernie experienced but also celebrate the outpouring of support and kindness that followed.

It is through unity and empathy that we can combat such acts of cruelty and stand together in solidarity with individuals like Ernie who embody strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.

  • I hope the liberal judges and juries in the Chicago area do a turnabout and put these punks in jail for at least 10 years and charge their parents, if they have any, for the damage to his vehicle and his body. Being a Marine Viet vet 1.5 years behind him, I never leave home without a weapon and I will use it if need be

  • Isn’t it funny how they never state the ethnicity of the criminals? I would place a big money bet on what color they are. George Wallace saw the writing on the wall many years ago, but no one would listen.

  • I for one and glad he wasn’t killed, that Communist run City, Capitol of murder, and gang violence committing such heinous crimes against Americans more over attacking the Elderly should be shot in the streets, since the Communist DA’S and Mayor and Judges will drop charges and turn the Bastards loose on society so they can do it all over again.
Like Gunny Gil stated I’m also an Army Vet and here in Texas, I never leave home without my 40 cal. Glock and I won’t hesitate to use deadly force..

So far, no need to carry in small town, but incidents w/reparations crowd seem to be escalating in surrounding cities and trickling towards out our area. May have to consider changing attitude if continues.

  • I always gag when they refer to thugs as “teens” or “youths”.
And, I will wager that they were 13%-ers.

  • Ernie needs to be armed and to use his weapon anytime someone places him in fear of this life.
In FL attacking the elderly is automatic FELONY and taken VERY seriously. It should be in Chicago as well. In fact the other criminals in the area should be telling all they know about this in exchange for lesser charges.
Then again, Chicago isn’t prosecuting criminals any more. Just taking guns from honest and upright citizens.
