Police in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, are searching for four suspects who opened fire on a vehicle at a busy intersection in broad daylight, an attack captured on another driver’s dash cam.
The shooting happened just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 291 and Chipman Road. Dash cam footage, released by Star Transport Midwest, shows a Ford truck pulling up behind another car before four people dressed in dark clothing got out and fired multiple shots into the vehicle ahead of them.
One person in the targeted car was struck by gunfire and taken to the hospital with what police described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Another person suffered injuries from broken glass and was also treated.
The suspects fled in a gray Ford F-150 bearing either a vanity or custom California license plate, according to Kelly Johnson, a spokesperson for the Lee’s Summit Police Department. Investigators are using Flock camera networks in an effort to track the vehicle down.
Johnson said detectives do not believe the attack was random.
“I don’t know if we’ve actually done an interview with the victim as of yet, but our detectives did say they believe that the victim in some way had knowledge of each other. I don’t know if they’re necessarily known to them, but it doesn’t seem like it’s a random act,” Johnson said.
No arrests have been made in the case as of this writing, and the motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed.
