Senator Susan Collins of Maine is experiencing a decline in her approval ratings. This development comes after she frequently opposed her party and President Trump on several important votes. Despite being a long-serving senator, Collins’ popularity seems to be waning among her constituents.

A recent Morning Consult poll revealed that 54% of Mainers disapprove of Collins’ job performance. This marks the highest disapproval rating for Collins in the survey’s eight-year history. Only 38% of voters in Maine approve of her performance in office, indicating a downward trend.

In the last quarter of 2024, the same poll showed that 47% of Collins’ constituents approved of her, while 44% disapproved. This was a slight decline from the third quarter of 2024 when 50% approved and 42% disapproved. A contrasting poll by Pan Atlantic Research in May showed slightly better numbers for Collins.

According to the Pan Atlantic Research poll, 49% of likely Maine voters viewed Collins favorably. Only 45% viewed her unfavorably, suggesting a more positive perception compared to the Morning Consult findings. Collins’ spokesperson highlighted this poll to counter the negative trend shown by Morning Consult.

Collins’ recent opposition to President Trump’s agenda is considered a significant factor in her declining approval ratings. She was one of three GOP senators to vote against Trump’s major bill, which he later signed into law. Collins cited concerns over the bill’s impact on Medicaid, which she believed would harm low-income families and rural healthcare providers.

In an effort to support rural hospitals, Collins sponsored a measure to raise taxes on millionaires. This amendment aimed to increase funding for healthcare in rural areas, a move that aligns with her moderate Republican stance. Her actions have sparked discussions about her political future and potential replacements.

The White House is reportedly considering replacements should Collins decide not to seek reelection. However, Collins has announced plans to run for reelection in 2026. Her strong fundraising results have encouraged her to continue her political journey.

Collins successfully secured her 2020 reelection bid, announcing her candidacy just months before the election. The National Republican Senatorial Committee is already supporting her with advertisements. A super PAC backing Collins has raised significant funds, strengthening her position.

With $5 million in cash on hand, Collins is well-prepared for a general election in Maine, a state that leans Democratic. Her victory against Democrat Sara Gideon in 2020 was notable, as she won by nine percentage points despite Biden winning the state. Maine remains the only state with a Republican senator despite voting for Kamala Harris in 2024.

Jason Savage, Executive Director of Maine GOP, praised Collins’ performance, noting her impact on communities across the state. He believes that her work will be remembered by voters in the 2026 midterms. Savage emphasized the broad support for Collins within the committee and among elected officials in Maine.

Collins’ transparency in explaining her political decisions is seen as a key factor in her appeal. Her willingness to communicate openly with voters sets her apart from other politicians. Savage highlighted her reputation for accessibility, which resonates with the people of Maine.

Current Democratic Senate candidates in Maine include David Costello and Jordan Wood. Costello was the 2024 Senate nominee and served as acting secretary of Maryland’s Department of the Environment. Wood was the chief of staff to former Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter.

Other Republican senators facing negative approval ratings include Mitch McConnell, Ron Johnson, and Joni Ernst. The Morning Consult poll was conducted between April and June, with varying margins of error depending on the state. This story has been updated to reflect the poll’s methodology and discussions within the White House.

  • Put that fraud useless piece of CRAP in the prison for outright TRAITORS and let her rot there!

What an evil wicked person to carry on as the FRAUD she obviously is, sucking off the Taxpayers all that money all those years doing NOTHING GOOD!!!!

  • Collins and Murkowski should be invited to Caucus with Democrats and be threatened with loss of support and being primaried, regardless. It’s the same as having an enemy within and cannot be tolerated: ANY ORGANIZATION EXPECTS THAT IT’S MEMBERS WORK TOWARD THE SAME GOAL. This means that snarks about ‘litmus tests’ and ‘Loyalty Oaths’ mean nothing! A team must accomplish it’s goals or why does it exist????
Both hate Trump, vote against him because of that hate, which in the case of Murkowski, is openly displayed and are not ‘Moderate’ Republicans, they are grandstanding and virtue- signalling, man-hating RINOs that obstruct at every turn Trump’s agenda. The GOP also needs to boot Cheney, Kinzinger and John Giles, Mayor of Mesa, Az. who materially supported Kamala Harris over Trump. If you support the other team, you are not on my team! It’s time for Republicans to tighten the team up. The undermining, backstabbing traitors must go or else! This is not Politics any more, it’s war and survival: should we stumble and Democrats return to power, we will never be allowed to exist once they have enough control. If this site has access, send this to Michael Whatley at the RNC.

    • Larry, all excellent points and correct! The RNC needs to give the party a deep enema and flush, and do it NOW! Because as you say those evil Democrats will show no mercy or do nothing good for the country if they get control again; they are like wild animals with the taste of blood and want to devour all that is still good in DC and beyond in order to seize total control permanently!

  • Tom it is written how it goes for such as these; in any event a very sick and doomed human being by her own choice!
