Country singer Jessie James Decker set off a social media debate this week after posting video of herself reacting to a bare foot resting near her airplane armrest — and spraying it.
In the clip, Decker is seen covering her nose before dousing the foot with some kind of spray. Text overlaid on the video read, “Someone’s foot smells so bad on the plane.”
Decker posted the video to her 4.4 million Instagram followers with a challenge attached. “Before you come at me…What would you have done?” she wrote in the caption.
The post drew a flood of reactions, many siding firmly with Decker. “The nerve of some people!” one commenter wrote. Another cheered her on: “I’d do just what you did!!! Spray the stinky foot!!!” A third suggested the offending passenger “should’ve been escorted off the plane.”
A commenter identifying as a former flight attendant weighed in with a sharper take on cabin etiquette. “As a past flight attendant, when I saw people put their feet on the arm rest. I immediately told them no, this isn’t their home. Respect the plane & people around you. That is so F in nasty. I would have smacked his foot with my elbow,” the comment read.
Not everyone was convinced a stranger was involved, though. Many followers speculated the foot belonged to Decker’s husband, Eric Decker, the former NFL wide receiver she married in 2013. “Please tell me that’s Eric’s foot and not some random person’s foot!” one person wrote. Another guessed, “I’m guessing that’s Eric’s foot? You are far too sweet to do that to a stranger…” A third commenter said, “That better be your husband. I would’ve moved!”
One follower suggested the whole thing might be a bit the couple was playing for the camera: “You’re being silly, right? It’s your husband behind you.”
Others offered their own alternative revenge fantasies for the situation, including grabbing a marker to draw on the offending foot, or faking a sneeze as cover for another spray.
Decker has not said publicly whose foot appeared in the video. She and Eric Decker share four children: Vivianne, Eric Jr., Forrest and Denver.
