Amal Clooney and George Clooney attended a theater event in New York on Sunday, where the actor took part in a one-night-only staged reading of “Smear!,” a political comedy written by Clark Gregg, his former co-star from “Good Night, and Good Luck.” The reading was held at Seaview Studio.
Amal Clooney, 48, a human rights lawyer, wore a caramel-colored Gucci suede trench coat from the brand’s fall 2015 collection, featuring rounded gold buttons. She had worn the same coat in 2015 to the Public Theater, pairing it then with a white Chloé dress and sandals.
For Sunday’s outing, she wore the trench over an off-white mock-neck minidress with black pointed-toe suede boots that reached nearly to the top of her thighs. She completed the look with a black handbag and gold chain earrings.
The same style of black thigh-high suede boots appeared in a February 2025 outing with George Clooney, when she paired them with a gray sweater dress and matching gray coat. In 2018, she wore a beige suede version of similar boots with a canary-yellow Lanvin coat for a dinner with her husband. In January, during a lunch with friends in Notting Hill, she wore cognac leather thigh-high boots with a Stella McCartney minidress and an Ermanno Scervino sweater.
Suede has featured prominently in her wardrobe this year. In July, she wore a vintage Thierry Mugler suede set with fringe trim during a boat outing in Capri. The fringe detail returned in September in Venice, where she wore an aqua and silver Caroline’s Couture minidress for a dinner.
That Venice appearance followed George Clooney’s Golden Lion acceptance speech, in which he said, “We’re going to go find a fun place to have dinner, my wife and I,” adding, “she’s going to be wearing a very nice dress so we’ll have to be careful where we go.”
