Tickets for Sunday’s 1 p.m. matchup between the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford had fallen to as low as $14 on StubHub as of Saturday morning, a steep drop for an NFL contest.
The price collapse comes as a nor’easter is forecast to hit the East Coast this weekend, bringing heavy rain and wind to the Northeast region, including Bergen County, where the stadium sits. The forecast for game time itself is not considered severe, but travel to and from the stadium is expected to be difficult given the storm conditions blanketing the area.
Ticket demand has also been affected by the season-ending injury to Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who suffered a knee injury during a Monday night game in Los Angeles last week and underwent surgery earlier this week that ends his season. Jameis Winston is now set to take over as the Giants’ full-time starting quarterback under head coach John Harbaugh for the remainder of the season. Winston’s performance in relief during Monday’s loss was not considered strong.
The opposing Titans are also among the lower-drawing teams in the league this season, despite nearly upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles last week. The combination of the storm, the loss of Dart, and the matchup itself has been cited as driving the sharp decline in ticket prices for Sunday’s game.
