The article covers an incident at an Alexandria salon where a Jewish Israeli-American customer, Jessica Walton, says she was told to leave by owner Fatana Karimi, and where Karimi later posted video of part of the encounter that changed how the dispute is seen publically.
Jessica Walton went into Karimi Brows for an eyebrow appointment and says the visit ended abruptly when owner Fatana Karimi told her to leave. Walton identifies as Jewish and half-Israeli, and she says the conversation shifted from Afghanistan to her background before the owner made the decision to kick her out. The interaction has since drawn attention online because Karimi released footage from the salon that captures only part of the exchange. The limited clip complicates the timeline and gives both sides room to shape the narrative.
Walton recalls that much of the appointment involved talk about Afghanistan, including details from a novel she recently finished that is partly set there. She says she and Karimi bonded over Afghan poetry, food, and people Walton had interviewed for her project. According to Walton, the trouble began when she mentioned a Jewish half-Israeli character in the novel and revealed her own identity. That disclosure prompted Karimi to abruptly end the service, Walton says.

Walton reports that Karimi said, “Get out of my shop” and made clear she would not provide service to an Israeli. Those words, Walton says, were part of a confrontation that included broader claims about the legitimacy of Israel. Karimi’s later social media clip starts after the argument escalated, which means some of Walton’s recollections are not on the posted footage. That gap has become a central point of dispute over who said what and when.
In the clip Karimi released, she asserts that Walton had signed a photo-video release, which Karimi points to as justification for recording and sharing what happened. Karimi also contends that Walton steered the conversation toward Israel and politics, while Walton maintains she believed they were discussing Afghanistan. The difference in how each woman remembers the topics discussed matters because Karimi frames her reaction as a business decision rooted in avoiding political arguments.
“Get out of my shop.”
“Excuse me?”
“I can’t provide service to an Israeli. It’s against my political beliefs. You need to leave immediately.”
Outside groups and individuals amplified Walton’s account after it surfaced on social media, with organizations describing the incident as one where a Jewish customer was expelled because of her ethnicity. That framing prompted offers of legal help and public condemnation from people who saw the video and read the initial reports. For many observers the issue is simple: a customer says she was discriminated against and the owner’s own video does not fully counter that claim.
Karimi, in her own posts, says she repeatedly asked to keep the appointment neutral and claimed Walton forced what she called heavy political debates. Karimi released a longer video as well, explaining in more detail why she ended the appointment and defending her actions as a choice to keep her business free from politicized exchanges. Her supporters see a business owner asserting the right to set boundaries in her shop, while critics see discriminatory behavior masked as political conviction.
The clash has legal and reputational consequences for both women: Walton says she deserves a refund for her deposit and has discussed potential legal action, while Karimi faces public backlash and potential loss of customers. The debate over free speech, business rights, and protection from discrimination is playing out in public forums, where short clips and selective edits can shift sympathies quickly. Both sides are using video and social posts to make their case, which raises questions about context and completeness of recorded material.
KARIMI: “You can defend it as much as you want, but this is my business.”
WALTON: “That’s totally fine. But you should give me my deposit back. And if you don’t, I’m going to have to take legal action.”
Local reaction has been intense, and national groups have weighed in, further polarizing a dispute that began as a routine personal service appointment. The incident highlights how identity and politics now frequently intersect in everyday spaces, and how quickly a private disagreement can become a public controversy. Recording and sharing only parts of an encounter leaves serious gaps that make it hard to settle who is telling the full truth.
Karimi uploaded a sequence of videos and statements on the business account to explain her side, arguing she sought to avoid politicizing her salon and felt Walton breached that boundary. Critics argue that refusing service based on nationality or religion is discriminatory, regardless of a claimed political motive, and some have called for investigations into whether any laws were violated. In the middle of all this, Walton’s original account and the multiple clips posted online keep the story alive and unsettled.

In Dearborn, MI, an American citizen voiced his opinion that he “didn’t recognize his city anymore”. He was told by the Muslim mayor, “You are Islamophobic, if you don’t like it here, leave!” Wow.
Now we have an Afghan Muslim (?) telling a woman (American citizen?) who identifies as Jewish and half-Israeli to leave her shop? Has America become a pseudo-Islamic country where US citizens or those not embracing Islam are denied service or face exclusion in our own country? Perhaps ICE is deporting the wrong people.
Shut down that salon as in yesterday this is utter BS
Anyone who denies the genocide of Palestinians should be publicly dragged outside and shamed. The salon owner was too nice.
