The recently announced vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz, is embroiled in an escalating scandal related to his military service.

Although Walz did serve in the Minnesota National Guard, reports have emerged indicating that he left his unit when faced with deployment to Iraq, resulting in a demotion.

Fellow soldiers who served alongside Walz are beginning to voice their dissatisfaction with his choice to avoid the deployment. One such instance is as follows.

Walz’s abrupt departure from his responsibilities to seek a political career was troubling, but I wouldn’t have labeled it a scandal at the time.

The real scandal came to light when a video surfaced of the Minnesota governor falsely claiming military experience, and ironically, this video was posted by the official Kamala Harris campaign account on social media.

WALZ: I’ll take my kick in the butt from the NRA. I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. And I gave the money back. And I’ll tell you what I have been doing. I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war.

Supporters of Harris-Walz quickly tried to downplay his statement as a simple slip of the tongue, arguing that he was speaking informally and only intended to reference his general military service rather than claiming to have been in combat, despite his explicit statement to the contrary.

However, this explanation might have been accepted if it were the only issue at hand. Unfortunately for them, a damning report from Jordan Schachtel on Wednesday afternoon has brought this scandal into sharp focus.

Green discusses a 2004 visit from former President George W. Bush to Gov. Walz’s hometown, in which a protesting Walz (who was still serving in the military) told the reporter about him supposedly demanding to speak to the then commander in chief.

“Walz thought for a moment and asked the Bush staffers if they really wanted to arrest a command sergeant major who’d just returned from fighting the war on terrorism,” Green writes.

Schatchel points out that the initial mention of Walz’s service in Iraq may have been based on an assumption made by the reporter, Joshua Green, who wrote the profile.

While it would be unusual for such an outlet to allow assumptions to be published without verification, it is still possible that Walz did not inform Green about his service in Iraq.

However, the second mention of Walz’s service cannot be dismissed as a reporter’s error.

Green clearly attributes the information to what Walz told him about being denied entry to a George W. Bush rally in 2004, a claim that appears to be questionable.

Additionally, despite now working for Bloomberg, Green continues to assert that Walz served in Iraq, suggesting that this information came directly from the governor himself and was not simply an assumption.

To this day, Green remains under the false impression that Walz served and fought in the war. In a piece for Bloomberg on Tuesday, he wrote that Walz served “in Iraq as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.”

In marketing Walz as a veteran upstart politician, he created a false construct that involved heroism in the war in terror, when in reality, Tim Walz never fought in a war or anywhere near a war.

This scandal shows no signs of fading, and it seems that we’ve only scratched the surface of the revelations about Walz’s career.

It is unclear whether the Harris campaign failed to properly vet him or if they were simply overconfident, but there’s a whole lot more to be exposed.

  • Democratic Mott just lie your ass off. People are so stupid they will believe anything you say. Do you really want Harris dealing with national crises. Can you imagine Harris talking to other country leaders about national politics and she starts cackling
like a chicken. She would talk to them like children and with her hands flying around she would probably smack them.
