Rand Paul Claims McConnell Plans ‘Sellout’ on Border Security

During an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) expressed his belief that the GOP’s Senate leadership is planning to betray their voters regarding President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.

According to Paul, the undisclosed draft deal is concerning because it enables illegal immigration and he attributed this to Democrats’ threat of cutting off aid for Ukraine as a means of pressuring Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

It’s saying, “Oh, we’ll let 5,000 people come illegally a day, and then after that, we might try to stop the next 5,000 that day.” It’s completely a sellout.

But it’s because people like Senator [Mitch] McConnell care more about Ukraine than anything else — more than the border, more than anything else. He wants to send $60 billion of your money to Ukraine. On this issue, he is more aligned with Biden. On the issue of funding, of sending your money to Ukraine and sending it everywhere around the world, McConnell is much more closely aligned with Biden than he is with the Republican Party.

Paul’s statements regarding the 5,000 daily limit pertain to a provision in the draft agreement that would reinstate a legal barrier known as Title 42 when the number of migrants reaches 5,000 per day. However, if we consider an influx of 5,000 migrants per day, it amounts to a staggering 1.8 million migrants annually.

This level of immigration equates to one migrant for every two births in the United States. According to the draft agreement, these 1.8 million undocumented economic migrants would be permitted entry into the country through legal loopholes such as asylum and parole.

Once admitted, they would have access to job opportunities and wages that are crucial for ordinary Americans while also competing for housing needed by American families.

This additional influx of 1.8 million migrants is on top of the existing annual inflow of one million legal immigrants and numerous temporary visa workers.

If implemented, this deal would effectively double the nation’s immigration rate under the guise of a “border security” bill.

Furthermore, Senate GOP leaders may allow Biden to bring in hundreds of thousands of foreign workers through an innovative “parole” pathway established by his administration.

They may also allocate funds towards Biden’s $14 billion request to accommodate and conceal his increasing population of impoverished migrants during the upcoming 2024 election.

A Republican betrayal on immigration would likely have severe consequences for the party’s future prospects, particularly because former President Donald Trump is anticipated to center his 2024 campaign around this issue.

The influx of migrants supported by Biden is widely unpopular among half of the public and an overwhelming majority within the Republican party who view it as an “invasion” that burdens and poses threats to Americans and their society.

In contrast, Democrats are striving to secure GOP approval for legal tools and financial resources aimed at managing their substantial flow of migrants rather than reducing it.

“I think we are interested as Democrats in providing the administration with tools that will help better manage the border,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn), told reporters on January 9.

We are not interested in taking away from the administration [the] tools that they use today to help better manage the border. And so, when we talk about this topic of parole, it is very important to understand that it is used today as a way that the administration is able to better manage the flow [of migrants] in a planful way.

To date, the administration has effectively controlled the influx of migrants to bolster investors’ stocks, but has failed to mitigate the economic burden on everyday Americans.

Several Republican Senators are calling for limitations on the quantity of migrants permitted to enter the United States through the parole loophole.

“There are a couple of ideas out there about how to deal with it but the one that seems to have a lot of support is some sort of a cap along the lines of what we do with refugees and other categories of people who come into the country,” Sen. John Thune (R-SD), told reporters on Thursday.

“There’s a real strong opinion in our conference that this issue of parole’s got to be dealt with in some way … [Democrats] understand now that we’re serious about it,” he told reporters, according to TheHill.com. Thune, who is Sen. McConnell’s deputy, did not suggest a number for the cap.

The Republican Party’s House leadership, led by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), has consistently emphasized the need to close the parole pathway.

Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden’s border chief who supports migration, has taken advantage of a loophole in the parole system to bring in approximately 700,000 economic migrants who seek jobs and homes in American neighborhoods.

In total, Mayorkas has facilitated the entry or continued stay of around 5 million undocumented migrants through various illegal, legal, or semi-legal means.

His objectives are focused on elevating the status of migrants and assisting investors without considering the significant financial burden placed on ordinary Americans.

As an example, in December 2022, Mayorkas expressed these goals to ElPasoMatters.org:

We look to our partner to the north that has a much more nimble immigration system that can be retooled to the [national government’s] needs at the moment. For example, Canada is in need of 1 million workers and they have agreed that in 2023, they will admit 1.4 million … immigrants to fill that labor need that Canadians themselves cannot. We are stuck in antiquated laws that do not meet our current [corporate] needs.

The FWD.us organization, founded by West Coast investors who support migration, aims to achieve a Wall Street economy that benefits from cheap labor and an influx of migrant workers.

They were instrumental in advocating for the “Gang of Eight” amnesty and cheap labor bill in 2013, and more recently played a role in pushing for the confirmation of Mayorkas as homeland secretary.

The wealthy founders, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, invested large sums of money to increase voter turnout in Democratic districts during the 2020 election.

Currently, FWD.us is mobilizing pro-migration groups to oppose any restrictions on parole migration, although there are indications that Biden’s administration may be open to such limitations.

“None of this is what we should be doing,” Todd Schulte, president of FWD.us, told a left-wing site, TheMessenger.com. “It’s certainly possible that a really harmful deal gets made and that would be tragic and terrible.”

Schulte emphasized that Biden should refuse to accept regulations mandating the expulsion of migrants or the confinement of asylum seekers, as he believes that such measures could lead to a significant loss of lives. His relentless efforts to safeguard the parole loophole appear to have caused a shift in the Democrats’ previous inclination to address this issue.

“We’ve got a couple of issues that I thought were resolved that are not resolved,” Sen. James Lankford told Semafor.com on January 8, when has was asked about parole.

The Republican Senators might not be making efforts to limit Mayorkas’s “CHNV” parole program, which brings in 360,000 individuals annually for employment and wages that could otherwise benefit Americans.

However, their intention might be solely focused on limiting the CBP One program. This program operates at the border and grants parole to approximately 50,000 individuals each month or a total of 600,000 people annually.

“Lankford, after Senate GOP meeting, says the parole conversation is focused on CBP One app, where migrants can make appointments at ports of entry, seek to enter the US & receive parole,” said a January 9 tweet by Bloomberg Government.

The CHNV program, which was likely established in 2013 in potential violation of a 1996 law, aimed to import workers from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

This program attracted CEOs who preferred hiring eager migrant workers with lower wages instead of dealing with the costs and responsibilities associated with employing less productive Americans who had become unemployed.
