The report has sparked fresh scrutiny, particularly as it emerges alongside a previously discussed controversy regarding Walz’s recollection of events during his time in China.

During prior interviews and in congressional testimony, Walz had shared memories of his presence in Hong Kong around the time of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. However, records indicate that he didn’t begin teaching in China until August of 1989, after the protests concluded. When asked about the discrepancy during a recent debate, Walz acknowledged the error, referring to himself as a “knucklehead” for confusing the dates.

Now, the story of his time in China has taken another turn. A woman named Wang, identified as the daughter of a CCP official, recently spoke out, sharing what she claims is the story of her brief, intense relationship with Walz during his teaching assignment in China. According to Wang, the romance began in 1989, shortly after Walz arrived, when he reportedly complimented her during a lecture.

Wang recounts that she first visited Walz’s housing quarters through a professional contact, which allowed her to discreetly spend time with him. Their meetings were confined to his modest living quarters, where they could maintain privacy away from public scrutiny. She notes that, despite being the daughter of a top official, her connection to Walz was kept strictly private to avoid drawing the attention of her father and other CCP figures.

On weekends, Walz would travel to nearby Hong Kong or Macau, reportedly bringing back gifts for Wang that were hard to come by in China, such as blue jeans and Ray-Ban sunglasses. According to her, these “Western luxuries” highlighted the cultural differences between them and underscored the allure of the West, which she was beginning to see through Walz.

She continued with her life in China but ultimately moved to Europe, where she established a career as a teacher, translator, and cultural mediator. Walz, meanwhile, returned to the U.S. and married Gwen Whipple, a fellow teacher, in 1994.

In her recent interview, Wang cited her reasons for coming forward after all these years, saying she felt Walz had compromised her reputation and misrepresented his own experiences in China. “Tim lied about Tiananmen Square and has lied about other things,” she stated. “This is a crucial moment in history, and a man like this does not appear to have the character and integrity to do one of the most important jobs in the world.” Her pointed remarks allude to his public statements on Tiananmen Square, suggesting that, to her, this inconsistency aligns with other perceived misrepresentations.
