Surprisingly, members of the left-leaning program The View appear to be open to the idea of replacing President Joe Biden on the Democrats’ presidential ticket.
The hosts expressed this sentiment during Friday’s episode, as reported by Fox News.
This is unexpected because The View has been a strong supporter of Biden. However, it seems that Biden’s underwhelming debate performance has led even these typically pro-Biden women to reconsider their stance.
According to Fox, the segment began with “The View” hosts showcasing a montage of moments from the recent debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The montage highlighted very few positive moments for Biden, in fact, almost none.
Following the montage, the hosts discussed the situation, with Sunny Hostin expressing that “most of us are mourning” due to Biden’s performance.
Co-host Sara Haines even went as far as to propose that Biden should consider stepping aside.
She said:
It was really hard to watch, and it kind of pains me to say this today, but I think President Biden needs to step down and be replaced. If we want to defeat Donald Trump in November, I absolutely think that, and I think Biden’s team saw it coming. I think that’s why they pushed for an earlier debate, so they’d have time to change course if needed.”
Haines then called on Biden’s people to have a “very hard conversation” with him.
Surprisingly, none of the hosts on The View had anything positive to say about Biden. One of them even admitted that Trump won the debate, which is a significant acknowledgment given the show’s typical stance.
Despite this, Joy Behar emphasized that she would still be voting for Biden if he remains on the Democrats’ ticket and faces off against Trump in November.
Following this discussion, the hosts speculated about potential replacements for Biden if he were to step aside. The usual names were mentioned, including Vice President Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.
This presents a challenge for the Democrats. If there were a strong replacement for Biden, it’s likely that he would have been replaced already. However, such a replacement is not readily apparent.
