The Democratic mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has been subpoenaed by federal prosecutors as part of an ongoing investigation into potential illegal foreign influence during his 2021 campaign.

City Hall, Adams, and his campaign committee were reportedly subpoenaed last month, with requests for text messages, documents, and other communications.

The FBI and other officials began the investigation during Adams’ mayoral run in 2021 but it only became public after a raid on his chief fundraiser’s home last November.

Allegations suggest that Adams may have engaged in a quid pro quo arrangement with Turkish leaders.

It’s been reported that he expedited the approval process for a new Turkish consulate high-rise in Manhattan despite safety concerns from the NYFD.

Investigators are also looking into potential illegal donations to his campaign from the Turkish government and free business-class upgrades from Turkish Airlines.

Adams has denied any wrongdoing and claims that his actions were within the scope of his duties as mayor.

“We don’t do quid pro quo; we follow the law,” Adams previously stated, according to PIX11. “Whatever they’re looking for, we’ll fully cooperate, and I’ll let them do their job without interference.”

His attorneys, Brendan R. McGuire and Boyd M. Johnson III, have similarly denied the allegations, claiming they have conducted a parallel investigation and have unearthed nothing untoward.

“To be clear, we have not identified any evidence of illegal conduct by the mayor,” the lawyers said in a joint statement. “To the contrary, we have identified extensive evidence undermining the reported theories of federal prosecution as to the mayor, which we have voluntarily shared with the U.S. attorney.”

Adams’ chief spokesperson, Fabien Levy, made similar comments.

“As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has been clear over the last nine months that he will cooperate with any investigation under way. Nothing has changed,” Levy said.

“He expects everyone to cooperate to swiftly bring this investigation to a close.”

Despite the denials, it appears that the allegations have negatively impacted Adams’ popularity.

His approval rating has declined, and multiple news sources have reported that three Democrats have already declared their candidacy to challenge Adams in the 2025 mayoral primary.

  • Adams needs to go. He is turning New York City into a cesspool. This city use to attract tourists, people wanting to see this once vibrant city. Now, we see illegals sitting outside, sleeping on the sidewalk, gang violence in the barracks. It is disgusting.
